AWS Infrastructure Sourcing and Procurement team is looking for an experienced Global Commodities Manager (GCM) to be part of the AWS Battery Team to lead strategic sourcing, technology strategy road mapping development, implementation of industry enabling and related project execution for key battery commodities (including but not limited to battery cells, modules, packs), for our growing Infrastructure. A Global Commodities Manager in the battery category is a thought leader responsible for developing Sourcing Strategies and clear action plans to drive the lowest total cost of ownership fueling the exponential growth across our Data Centers as we meet and exceed customer demand. In this role you will lead internal engagements across Supply Chain, Engineering and Business organizations while diving deep into the technologies and operations both from a product and Supply Chain perspective. You will analyze trends involving the industry players - vendors, customers, and technology to develop strategies to reduce cost, minimize risk, protect continuity of supply, and utilize emerging opportunities, allowing AWS to meet and exceed its goals.

Key job responsibilities

- Lead sourcing engagements and sourcing teams in opportunity identification and RFIs where appropriate

- Develop and implement negotiation strategies to deliver against business objectives and achieve sustainable relationships with suppliers

- Analyze and determine opportunities to leverage and consolidate the supply base using system level tools and techniques

- Evaluate supplier core competencies, technologies, and competitive positioning using industry cost models

- Review and approve a comprehensive list of suppliers for bid processes developed by analyzing the industry to understand trends and competitive positioning, ensuring system activation of the best possible supply base

- Negotiate and implement supplier agreements/contracts by working with cross-functional stakeholders and suppliers to reach agreement on contract terms and conditions

- Drive suppliers for continuous improvement manufacturing processes, technology decisions, and policies in ways that are mutually beneficial and sustainable for both organizations by leveraging the growth of Amazon's spend

- Manage strategic supplier relationships and establish yourself as a primary business contact for key suppliers

Travel required, approximately 20%

A day in the life

You will be working closely with several business partners to manage AWS battery business on a day to day basis, but will be heavily focused on mid and long-term technology sourcing strategies. You will partner closely with a very capable hardware engineering teams to devise sourcing and technology development plans to launch next generation networking hardware based on the silicon platforms you source. This will include interactions with hardware development teams, network design and deployment engineering teams, finance, legal, and others. You will also manage working and executive level supplier relationships with multiple silicon suppliers.

About the team

The AWS Battery Team is made up of global category managers (Procurement), supply chain managers (Supply Chain), and Product/Operations Manager who manage the broad base of battery suppliers and internal amazon initiatives that help build the AWS cloud. We drive supply continuity, technology development and adoption, cost optimization, and internal supply chain systems development for battery categories (battery cells, modules, pack, systems, power electronics).

We are a mix of industry experts and those aspiring to grow our industry expertise. We all bring something valuable to the table from our unique backgrounds.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- 6+ years of developing, negotiating and executing business agreements experience

- 6+ years of working with Core Cloud Technology Services, including, but not limited to Compute, Edge, Hybrid, Security, and/or Networking experience

- 5+ years of solving problems with technology in the Automotive & Manufacturing industries experience

- 5+ years of solving problems with technology in the Energy & Utilities industries experience

- Experience developing strategies that influence leadership decisions at the organizational level

- Experience managing programs across cross functional teams, building processes and coordinating release schedules

- Experience leading complex, multi-year initiatives that may be cross-functional and/or span business and technology

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience identifying, negotiating, and executing complex legal agreements

- Experience interpreting data and making business recommendations across leadership and cross-functional teams

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
