The Southwest Business Unit Asset Team is looking for a Geologist with a minimum of 6 years experience preferably with a focus on integrating petrophysical, geological and geophysical data sets for subsurface evaluations and projects. The geologist will be responsible for the scoping and planning wells and work closely with our reservoir engineering team to understand well performance.
The Geologist will be a part of a multi-disciplinary team consisting of geoscientists, engineers and land professionals and will provide support through her/his knowledge of reservoir characterization and reservoir development management of our assets. The successful candidate will be required to prepare/present technical evaluations to Senior Management.
Essential Roles and Responsibilities:- Integrate geological work with geophysical and reservoir engineering analysis to provide unified interpretations.
- Plan, coordinate and ensure QA /QC for all wells in assigned area, including generating predrill geologic prognosis, logging programs, hazard analysis, surveying, permitting, directional planning, economic evaluation, AFE processing.
- Work closely with Operations Geology Team to support execution of well plan and science objectives.
- Analyze log data, correlate log tops, generate control points, update mapping systems.
- Provide detailed depositional models within a regional sequence stratigraphic framework.
- Participate in acreage evaluations.
- Data management: Support data loading and organization with our Geo-Tech's in Petrel and other necessary data repositories.
- Support the Asset Team by participating in the reserves booking process & discussions, completion recommendations, reviews with upper management, budget planning and special mapping and science projects.
- Monitor industry operational activity and make recommendations accordingly.
- Conduct business with the highest ethical standards; demonstrate decision-making skills that ensure the safety of all persons associated with SM facilities.
- Other duties as assigned.
Role-Specific Technical Knowledge & Skills:- Strong knowledge of fundamental geological principles, techniques, modifications and extension of theories.
- Ability to generate novel ideas and leads in maturing areas of unconventional plays.
- Ability to assist with feedback for petrophysical analysis.
- Knowledge in mapping and structural geology.
- Solid understanding of reservoir engineering.
- Well-versed in unconventional play evaluation methods and risk analysis.
- Familiar with core analysis and petrophysical integration. Experience relating geochemistry, operations, geologic, and seismic attributes to one another for evaluations.
- Team player mentality that enjoys responsibility for multiple projects and open to mentoring. Ability to grasp new concepts quickly. Excellent written / verbal communication and interpersonal skills. Receptive and open minded to technical feedback from all colleagues.
- Knowledgeable to proficient in Petrel and Spotfire.
- Knowledgeable in ArcPro a plus.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel and Word) applications to manipulate and interpret data, reports and discuss/present findings clearly.
Education:B.S. & M.S. degrees in Geosciences required.
