The Sr. Director of Solutions Architecture is responsible for providing strategic vision, transformational leadership, and technical oversight for the Solution Architecture program at DaVita. This role drives the day-to-day leadership of the Solution Architecture team, ensuring that all technical designs are robust, scalable, secure, and tightly aligned with the strategic goals of the enterprise.

Acting as a key evangelist and bridge between enterprise architecture, product teams, and business stakeholders, this leader guides digital transformation initiatives and modern platform scaling. They are pivotal in shifting the organization from legacy paradigms to modern, composable architectures, championing "AI-first" and agentic workflows, and establishing rigorous "buy vs. build" frameworks to reduce redundancy, drive innovation, and improve patient outcomes.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Strategic Vision, Transformation & Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and evolve the solution architecture disciplines. Manage the health of the team including coaching, performance reviews, recruiting, and development. Establish KPIs to measure team efficiency and architectural impact on business agility. Cultivate a culture of continuous learning and architectural evangelism.
  • Composable Solution Architecture & Design: Develop the overall architectural vision that underlies projected solutions. Ensure delivery of high-quality logical and physical designs that align with Enterprise Architecture principles, standards, and business requirements. Champion composable architecture paradigms to create modular, interchangeable business capabilities.
  • Buy vs. Build & Ecosystem Optimization: Lead rigorous "buy vs. build" evaluations for new initiatives, taking into consideration Enterprise Architecture policies and guardrails. Actively identify opportunities to reduce technology redundancy, optimize technical debt, and leverage commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) or SaaS solutions to accelerate speed-to-market.
  • Business Alignment & Cross-Stakeholder Scaling: Partner closely with product engineering, platform leaders, product owners, and executive leadership to translate highly complex technical strategies into actionable blueprints. Act as a trusted advisor who bridges the gap between technical concepts and measurable business ROI.
  • AI-First Modernization & Agentic Workflows: Drive the modernization of legacy thinking by infusing AI-driven capabilities and agentic workflows into solution designs. Design patterns for autonomous, AI-augmented systems that enhance operational efficiency and clinical decision-support.
  • Practice Maturation & Agile Governance: Mature the Solution Architecture practice by defining policies, procedures, patterns, and standards. Chair or actively participate in the Solution Architecture Review Board (SARB) to ensure governance, security, and adherence to enterprise guidance without bottlenecking agile delivery.
  • Innovation, Emerging Technologies & Customer Journey: Research changing trends in technology, data architectures, and vendor ecosystems. Champion the adoption of next-generation capabilities (e.g., Generative AI, machine learning, cloud-native ecosystems, event-driven architectures), ensuring maximum ROI, agility, and competitive advantage. Support digital strategy, identify product line digital opportunities, map customer journeys, and seamlessly introduce new technologies.
  • IT Portfolio Modernization & Roadmapping: Support Product Line Managers (PLMs) in the development and maintenance of comprehensive product roadmaps. Actively support IT portfolio modernization by managing cross-product line (Cross-PL) current and future-state architectures and driving technical debt reduction.
  • Other Duties as Assigned

Education and Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or a related discipline required. (Master's degree or relevant advanced industry certifications preferred).
  • Leadership Experience: Minimum of 5-7 years of experience directly managing and developing high-performing, matrixed technology or architecture teams in agile/product-driven environments. Proven track record of transformational leadership.
  • Technical Experience: Minimum of 10+ years of experience in an Information Technology architecture or technical capacity, with at least 5 years designing modern, cloud-native architectures (AWS/GCP/Azure). Hands-on experience with API-led connectivity, microservices, DevOps/DevSecOps practices, and operationalizing AI/ML solutions would be preferred.
  • Strategic Architecture Skills: Deep expertise in guiding "buy vs. build" strategies, implementing composable business architectures (e.g., Gartner's PACE-layered application strategy), and designing agentic AI systems. Proficiency with modern Enterprise Architecture management and modeling tools (e.g., LeanIX) to drive architectural visibility and governance.
  • Industry Knowledge: Deep technical knowledge and broad healthcare industry experience that fosters prompt analysis of requirements, regulatory compliance (e.g., HIPAA), and alignment to common healthcare interoperability standards. Must possess a strong understanding of relevant healthcare technology vendor products and how to build a seamlessly connected, interoperable ecosystem.

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations
  • Preferred: TOGAF, AWS/GCP/Azure Certified Solutions Architect (Professional), or equivalent enterprise architecture certifications.
