Full Job Description
The Position:

We are seeking a Sr. Director, Lab Pipelines & LIMS to lead the strategy, development, and operation of critical software systems that power our diagnostic workflows. This leader will oversee multiple engineering teams responsible for LIMS and laboratory pipelines & tools, including pipelines supporting secondary analysis such as sequence data processing, variant calling, data transformation, and quality control. This role will be instrumental in shaping the future of our platform, driving cross-functional collaboration, and delivering solutions that directly impact patient care.
  • Lead and grow multiple high-performing engineering teams, including LIMS and pipelines & tools teams, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and collaboration
  • Define and execute the technical and product strategy for laboratory systems, including LIMS, secondary analysis pipelines, and supporting tools
  • Oversee development of pipelines that transform raw laboratory and sequencing data into structured, analysis-ready outputs
  • Partner closely with laboratory operations, bioinformatics, product, quality, and regulatory teams to align priorities and deliver integrated solutions
  • Drive the design and development of scalable, reliable, and secure systems supporting end-to-end lab workflows from sample accessioning through reporting
  • Ensure systems meet regulatory and quality requirements for clinical laboratory environments, including traceability, auditability, and data integrity
  • Oversee technical direction, balancing speed, scalability, and long-term sustainability
  • Establish and refine processes for software development, deployment, and support in a regulated environment
  • Manage roadmap planning, resource allocation, and execution across multiple teams and initiatives
  • Champion modern engineering practices including automation, CI/CD, observability, and cloud-native architectures
  • Build strong stakeholder relationships by engaging early, seeking input, and aligning on shared goals
  • Drive continuous improvement by embracing challenges, learning from setbacks, and raising the bar for performance and quality

Who You Are:

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Bioinformatics, or a related field
  • 12+ years of software engineering experience, including leadership of multiple teams or organizations
  • Proven experience building and scaling enterprise systems in laboratory, healthcare, or other regulated environments
  • Direct experience with LIMS platforms and secondary analysis pipelines (e.g., sequence data processing, variant calling, annotation workflows, or similar data-intensive pipelines)
  • Strong understanding of data engineering principles, workflow orchestration, and distributed systems
  • Experience working in regulated environments (e.g., CLIA, CAP, FDA or equivalent) with a strong understanding of quality and compliance requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to lead through ambiguity and deliver complex, cross-functional initiatives
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence across functions and levels
  • Track record of developing leaders and building high-performing, engaged teams

Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, or a related discipline
  • Experience in genomics, molecular diagnostics, or other data-intensive life sciences domains
  • Familiarity with end-to-end sequencing workflows, including primary, secondary, and tertiary analysis stages
  • Experience modernizing legacy systems and driving platform transformation initiatives
  • Strong understanding of data governance, lineage, and interoperability standards in clinical environments
  • Experience implementing or integrating commercial LIMS platforms
  • Passion for improving patient outcomes through technology and advancing precision medicine

For candidates based in our San Diego office, the salary is $243,000 - $273,000.

For candidates based in our South San Francisco office, the salary is $260,000 - $292,000.

The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to years of experience, skillset, geographic location, industry, education, etc. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units.
