PayPal, Inc. seeks Sr Database Engineer in San Jose, CA
Job Duties: Execute strategic infrastructure transformation initiatives to establish industry-leading availability standards and architect solutions for petabyte-scale operational excellence. Lead database platform initiatives for exceptional availability and petabyte-scale performance. Architect cloud-native data solutions across multi-cloud environments. Design infrastructure-as-code frameworks for automated database operations. Establish enterprise-grade security protocols and access controls. Design comprehensive monitoring and observability solutions for mission-critical systems. Execute advanced performance optimization for high-throughput environments. Drive incident response leadership to maintain system reliability. Provide technical consultation to product engineering teams on application resiliency design. Architect and code database tooling and automation frameworks using AI-powered solutions. Partial telecommuting permitted from within a commutable distance.
Minimum Requirements: Master's degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Engineering, or a closely related field plus six years of experience in the job offered or a related occupation. Employer will accept a Bachelor's degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Engineering or a closely related field plus nine years of experience in the job offered or a related occupation.
Special Skill Requirements:
• MS SQL Server Expert (6 years): End-to-end administration (v[redacted]) of VLDBs, including TDE/TLS security, performance tuning, and advanced T-SQL development for high-concurrency environments.
• MySQL Administration (6 years): Full lifecycle management (v5.6-8.4) on Linux, featuring XtraDB Cluster, Oracle GoldenGate, and automated SSL rotation.
• High Availability & DR (6 years): Architecting Failover Clusters, Always-On Availability Groups, Mirroring, and Replication to meet strict RTO/RPO targets.
• Database Designing (6 years): Logical/physical data modeling, normalization/denormalization, and architectural refactoring for scalability and integrity.
• Automation & DevOps (6 years): Streamlining operations via PowerShell, Python, Bash, and Ansible; agentless monitoring and automated patching.
• Cloud & Infrastructure (5 years): Data center migrations and managing Azure SQL (DB/MI) and GCP Cloud SQL environments.
• Business Intelligence (5 years): Designing robust BI solutions using the full Microsoft BI Stack (SSIS, SSRS, SSAS).

The base pay for this role will depend on where you work and the relevant experience and expertise you bring. The expected range of pay for this role by location is:

San Jose, California | Salary: $194,419.00-219,500.00 per annum. 40 hours per week; M-F, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Additional compensation for this role may include an annual performance bonus, equity, or other incentive compensation, as applicable.
