Scope of Position:A senior-level engineering position in the Measurements & Controls organization responsible for the development, implementation, commissioning, and long-term support of industrial control systems for manufacturing processes, automation, and inspection systems. This role leads control system work from concept through deployment, drives the transfer of technology from development to manufacturing, and ensures safe, reliable, maintainable, and repeatable operation in production environments. The Senior Controls Engineer is expected to independently execute complex assignments, provide technical leadership on projects, and mentor less experienced engineers and technicians.
Day to Day Responsibilities:- Lead engineering projects focused on the design, implementation, and optimization of control and automation systems for manufacturing equipment and processes.
- Design, configure, program, and validate PLC-based control systems, including control logic, I/O architecture, motion control, alarming, safety systems and system diagnostics.
- Develop and maintain HMI, SCADA, and operator interface solutions that improve usability, diagnostics, and operational effectiveness.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to define control system requirements, develop functional specifications, and align technical solutions with manufacturing and business needs.
- Lead and participate in factory and site acceptance testing (FAT/SAT), startup, and commissioning activities, including development of test plans and turnover documentation.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex control system issues during development, startup, and production support using structured problem-solving and data-driven analysis.
- Support integration with sensors, vision systems, and industrial networks.
- Assist in documenting control system designs, software, and procedures for release to production.
- Support continuous improvement of system reliability, safety, and performance.
- Travel Requirements: 20-40% travel, 1 day to several week trips are typical.
Hours of work/work schedule/flextime:- 40+ hrs./week, Monday-Friday
Required Education:- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation Engineering, or a related field.
- Advanced degree preferred.
Required Experience/Skills:- 5+ years of experience in controls, automation, or industrial systems engineering.
- Basic knowledge of PLC programming concepts and HMI development tools.
- Familiarity with industrial control platforms (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Beckhoff, or similar).
- Understanding of sensors, actuators, and industrial I/O systems.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Desired Experience/Skills:- Exposure to industrial communication protocols (EtherNet/IP, Profinet, Modbus).
- Experience with machine safety concepts and safety PLCs.
- Experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Exposure to motion control, robotics, or servo systems.
Soft Skills:- Ability to work collaboratively with engineering, operations, and maintenance teams.
- Strong desire to learn and develop technical skills.
- Results-oriented mindset and ability to manage multiple tasks.
This position does not support immigration sponsorship. The range for this position is $105,994.00 - $145,743.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
