This position offers a hybrid work arrangement, with the opportunity to work remotely up to 2 days per week.

Purpose Statement/Position Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Genomic Data Analyst/Scientist with a strong background in bioinformatics, including extensive experience in rare and common variant calling from whole-genome sequencing data, variant classification, and genomic data management. The Scientist will serve as a subject matter expert, performing both independent and collaborative bioinformatics analyses, including methods research and methods development. The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary research team focused on deeply phenotyping Hispanic families with one or more children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. Candidates should hold a Ph.D. in Genomics, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or a related field, with at least three years of postdoctoral or industry experience in genomic bioinformatics.

The Sr. Clinical Bioinformatics Engineer serves as an expert who will lead the work on developing and utilizing new and existing computational tools and systems to assist with the analysis and interpretation of clinical data from various next-generation sequencing based assays and other laboratory developed tests. The Clinical Bioinformatics Engineer, Sr will not only be able to use established workflows and software packages, but also be able to develop customized pipelines, databases and novel methodologies as needed. The Clinical Bioinformatics Engineer, Sr is expected to play a leadership role in managing and mentoring junior bioinformatics engineers, and is encouraged to participate, to assist and to lead various clinical and research projects that will lead to novel clinical insights and publications. The Clinical Bioinformatics Engineer, Sr will serve in a project management capacity for projects across the team and will lead and manage diverse cross-disciplinary teams from initiation to implementation. He/she also provides research support to investigators and assists in training investigators and new users to use bioinformatics applications and databases. The Sr. Clinical Bioinformatics Engineer must be able to perform all responsibilities of the Clinical Bioinformatics Engineer II job description. Minimum Qualifications/Work Experience:

Required:
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple large-scale projects and overlapping deadlines and dependencies.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal is required.
  • Familiarity with various publicly available databases such as HGMD, ClinVar, TCGA, ICGC, Ensembl, Refseq, UCSC, 1000 Genome and ExAC.
  • Capable of designing and executing large-scale projects and programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement and understand complex algorithms.
  • Ability to develop and implement methods/algorithms and integrate multiple tools and software resources into software solutions/pipelines.
  • Familiarity with laboratory testing methods and genomic and other laboratory data is desired.
  • Proficiency in various open source and commercially available bioinformatics resources, platforms and software required
  • Demonstrated ability to organize data and implement algorithms for the analysis of large-scale complex data sets including statistical tests, quality analysis, and machine learning, artificial intelligence, blockchain and or natural language processing.
Preferred:
  • Intermediate to advanced level linux background and bash scripting experience.
  • Intermediate to advanced object-oriented programming and scripting language experience.
  • Intermediate to advanced (structured and/or unstructured) database development experience.
  • Beginner to intermediate level experience with developing and deploying CI/CD pipelines.
  • Intermediate to advanced level experience with various Cloud Services such as AWS Code Pipeline, Code Commit, Fargate and Lambda.
  • Intermediate to advanced high performance computing cluster experience and working with schedulers such as Slurm or LSF.
  • Intermediate to advanced level experience with a workflow definition language such as Nextflow.
  • Intermediate to advanced level experience working with containerization technology such as Docker or Singularity.
  • Intermediate to advanced level experience developing and automating custom data processing pipelines for production environment.
  • Experience developing web applications and dashboards desired.
Education/Licensure/Certification:

Bachelor's degree highly desired with 7+ years of related work experience, or master's degree with 5+ years of related work experience. Advanced degree preferred.

Pay Scale Information

USD $124,488.00 - USD $165,984.00
