Full Job Description
As a Sr Certification Engineer you will play an important support role in the New Product Development process as well as Product Sustaining process. This role will support the complete AHRI audit process for multiple product platforms across Carrier's portfolio with emphasis on VRF & Ductless air conditioning and heat pump equipment. In addition, the role will contribute to the statistical analysis of test data, as well as identify and drive process improvements throughout day-to-day activities.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Maintain the AHRI certification database as it relates to the DLS & VRF product offering
• Support of the VRF & VMHP AHRI audit process, from equipment selection and ordering to witnessing all audit testing at 3rd party laboratories. Occasional local and long-distance travel required.
• Responsible for overseeing the organization's audit program, and communicating updates to leadership on a recurring basis
• Perform internal lab correlation activities to ensure maximum data integrity across multiple locations
• Works with the laboratory team to support capability improvement projects on an as-needed basis.
• Participate in codes and standards development (for example, ASHRAE, ASME, AHRI, etc.) (with focus on AHRI 1230 STC and Compliance Committee)
• Perform reviews and root cause analysis on failures, near misses, and other issues that arise from audit testing
• Seismic and Wind Load testing and certification support for DLS / VRF portfolio
• Support the organization's initiative to use statistics and variation as a driver in new product development and sustaining activities
• Work closely with product development engineers, Product Management, and Marketing to generate and document official product rating and certification information
• Implement Carrier Excellence tools to drive continuous improvement into existing processes
• Provides product safety support for VRF / DLS team. Coordinates and performs internal or external testing of components or systems, as required, to aid in root cause determination of reported failures. Works cross-functionally to collect information and report findings.
• Provides NPD support for codes, standards, and regulation interpretation and project requirements identification.
• Participates in product safety and design reviews to ensure compliance with relevant codes, standards, and internal requirements.
• Routinely works with Product Management, Sales, and Service teams to support field inquiries.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor's degree
• 5+ years of experience in an HVAC testing environment or HVAC engineering
• Ability to travel, up to approximately 20%, domestic and international
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Demonstrated refrigeration, mechanical, and electrical background
• Willing to attend off-hours meetings with global Carrier engineering teams and suppliers.
• Self-starter with ability to learn quickly and work independently under minimum to moderate direction
• Capable of receiving feedback and being mentored by a senior level engineer
• Strong understanding of thermodynamics, fluid flow, and heat transfer
• Solid technical skills and analytical proficiency
• Understand basic electronic controls function in HVAC equipment
• Experience in new product development or testing environment
• Highly skilled in Microsoft; Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Ability to communicate effectively, follow oral and written instructions
• At least 5+ years of mechanical experience
• Understanding of the requirements to properly certify HVAC equipment for performance and safety
• Direct experience in the testing of HVAC equipment including commercial air handling equipment, packaged and split air conditioners, heat pumps, DX or water coils, furnaces, and fans.
• Comfortable working on teams providing and receiving input from multiple team members
• ASHRAE affiliation a plus
• Experience working with 3rd party laboratories a plus
• Knowledge of statistics and product variability
Pay Range
The annual salary for this position is between $79,000.00 - $158,000.00 annually. Factors which may affect pay within this range include, but are not limited to, skills, education, experience, and other unique qualifications of the successful candidate.
Other Compensation
This position may be entitled to short-term cash incentives, subject to plan requirements.
