Full Job Description

The Defense Systems Group (DSG) provides analysis-based decision support to senior leaders on space architectures, policy and strategy, technology development, warfighter capability enablers, systems integration, defense industrial base, and threat reduction to help shape existing and future space missions across the national security space (NSS) enterprise. DSG is unique at Aerospace as it not only directly supports major customers, including the U.S. Space Force, U.S. Space Command, Air Force Material Command, and senior leadership at the Pentagon, but also provides a broad range of technical support across the national space enterprise, maintaining vertical responsibilities with customers’ portfolios as well as horizontal, matrixed responsibilities across the corporation. Additionally, DSG provides deep technical expertise to the Space Force Space Systems Command (SSC) in the conception, design, acquisition, launch and operations of satellite, launch vehicle, ground control, and range systems.

As a Sr. CE & LSE Support Leader in the Special Programs Division, Space Domain Superiority Directorate, you will be the Aerospace lead technical support to the SYD89/SYM Chief Engineer and Lead Systems Engineer. This role will experience all phases of multiple space vehicles’ life cycle: procure, design, build, AI&T, launch, test, and operate; and have the opportunity to work with stakeholders across the national security space enterprise.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Be the Aerospace primary technical advisor to the SYM government technical leads in formulating, evaluating, andensuring proper understanding and implementation of system requirements and system engineering practices
  • Lead the implementation of systems engineering, requirements, and test & verification/validation standard methodologies to support customer development ofacquisition documents required for execution of space, ground, and operations
  • Guide the definition, development, coordination, and approval of system capability and requirements documents
  • Lead the Aerospace team in the execution of systems engineering responsibilities, to include the coordinationof subject matter experts and the integration of inputs to provide corporate and customer leadership with technical products
  • Be responsible for ensuring successful execution of systems integration efforts between space, ground, and crypto segments through technical coordination, interface management, and integration planning
  • Provide insight to customer and Aerospace leadership on risks, issues, opportunities and associated mitigation strategies andcorrective actions
  • Lead systems of systems working groups and design reviews
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with customer leadership, UARCs, SETAs, other FFRDCs, capability-delivering contractors, Aerospace ETG, and other program officesupport organizations
  • Be a senior mentor to team members, providing technical guidance to staff in both technical duties and program office responsibilities

The selected candidate will be required to work full-time, on-site at our facility in El Segundo, CA

What You Need to be Successful
Minimum Requirementsfor Sr. Project Leader - Engineering Program Management:

  • Bachelors degree in relevant Engineering, Math, or Science subject area
  • 12 or more years of engineering experience supporting space vehicle or space payload development projects
  • Track record of leading integrated multidisciplinary teams and ability to interface effectively with senior management from the Government customer and development contractors
  • Demonstrated ability to leverage Aerospace ETG to deliver multidisciplinary studies, technical reports, and rapid analyses
  • Strong background in Systems Engineering with demonstrated success in supporting the fielding of space systems
  • Strong background in providing mentorship
  • Broad familiarity with Space Force Organizations
  • This position requires a current and active TS/SCI security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government; and U.S citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.
  • Willingness to travel 10-15% of the time

How You Can Stand Out

  • Advanced degree(s) in relevant Engineering, Math, or Science subject area
  • Experience in space systems, space technology development, DoD acquisition processes and/or activities related to do no harm, and multi-manifest integrated payload stacks
  • An understanding of the Adaptive/Agile Mission Assurance approach
  • Experience with assembly, integration and test
  • Experience with software architecture or software integration at the systems level
  • Previous line or team management experience and/or Aerospace Corporation program office experienceworking with multi-disciplinary teams
  • Positive attitude, ability to remain calm under pressure, and skill in being honest with leadership in a constructive, non-confrontational manner
  • Proven ability to work in a high-pressure environment with constantly evolving priorities
  • Previous experience in the development and operation of prototype space vehicles or payloads
  • Experience with model-based system engineering (MBSE) tools, data ontologies/standards and model development
  • Previous experience working in SAP/SAR environments/programs

Individual salaries within that range are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge and skills.
