Job Description:

Join the L3Harris Technologies, Spectrum Superiority, team as a Mechanical Engineering Specialist, focus on Design for Excellence for advanced communication equipment supporting defense applications. In this role, you will be responsible for the mechanical design and producibility of mission-critical hardware, throughout the lifecycle of the product.

Essential Functions:
  • Develop optimized mechanical solutions for ruggedized defense communication equipment, including enclosures, chassis, thermal solutions, cable routing, and other hardware assemblies, with a focus on size, weight, and suitability for harsh military environments.
  • Apply Design for Excellence (DfX) principles, including manufacturability, assembly, test, reliability, maintainability, and sustainment, to improve product robustness, environmental performance, and compliance with program requirements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including electrical, systems, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and program management, to drive design solutions that balance cost, performance, and producibility.
  • Create and maintain mechanical design documentation, including 3D models, engineering drawings, tolerance analyses, and engineering change packages.
  • Partner with internal teams, suppliers, and manufacturing organizations to resolve producibility challenges and improve design maturity for production readiness.
  • Support prototype builds, design verification and validation testing, root cause investigations, and corrective action implementation.
  • Contribute to product qualification and risk-reduction efforts related to shock, vibration, thermal performance, and environmental requirements.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance.
