Full Job Description
We are seeking a Sr. Advanced Mechanical Design Engineer in our Broomfield, CO, Location.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop cryogenic systems, including refrigeration and liquefaction systems, cryostats, and cryogenic storage solutions
  • Apply principles of thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid dynamics to optimize cryogenic processes
  • Work within a fast-paced environment to turn concepts into prototype designs & iterate on these designs based on lab test results
  • Conduct research to develop new cryogenic technologies and improve existing systems
  • Apply mechanical design tools such as Onshape and Ansys to rapidly design and deliver cryogenic systems that meet the evolving needs of customers, ranging from prototypes to commercial products
  • Utilize Onshape and Arena PLM software tools to manage design releases and product documentation
  • Perform thermal modeling and analysis and use results to inform design decisions
  • Work hands-on to build and validate your prototypes and deliver commercial systems
  • Work with manufacturing to ensure solutions are producible and scalable
  • Perform simulations and experiments to test cryogenic equipment and systems
  • Analyze data and ensure systems meet performance and safety standards
  • Prepare technical documentation, including design specifications, operating manuals, and maintenance guidelines
  • Present findings and project updates to stakeholders and management
  • Liaise with suppliers, manufacturers, and external contractors as needed
  • Ability to travel up to 15%


YOU MUST HAVE:

  • Bachelor's degree minimum required
  • Minimum 7+ years of mechanical or cryogenic system design experience required
  • Minimum 1+ years of experience performing thermal modeling and analysis required
  • Due to Contractual requirements, must be a U.S. Person defined as, U.S. citizen permanent resident or green card holder, workers granted asylum or refugee status.
  • Due to national security requirements imposed by the U.S. Government, candidates for this position must not be a People's Republic of China national or Russian national unless the candidate is also a U.S. citizen.


WE VALUE:

  • Master's degree, PhD, or higher in Engineering, Physics or a related field preferred.
  • Strong understanding of engineering principles, thermodynamics, and heat transfer with practical experience applying this knowledge to real-world engineering challenges
  • Experience designing, building and operating cryogenic, vacuum and electro-mechanical systems
  • Experience with thermal and vibrational modeling and using this analysis to inform design decisions
  • Experience working hands on to build and validate your prototypes and system designs
  • Experience with mechanical inspection and working with suppliers on complex mechanical procurement and subcontracts
  • Experience with PLM/PDM to manage design releases and engineering change orders ensuring documentation compliance throughout the product development lifecycle
  • Proficiency in controls software for controls systems and/or CAD software for system design and modeling
  • Knowledge of safety protocols and regulations pertaining to cryogenic materials
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex systems


$136,000 - $170,000 a year

Compensation & Benefits:

The pay range for this role is $136,000 - $170,000 annually. Actual compensation within this range may vary based on the candidate's skills, educational background, professional experience, and unique qualifications for the role.
