What is the Opportunity?Aecon is seeking an onsite environmental professional to lead our environment team involved in some of the largest infrastructure civil projects in the history of the GTA.
The Environment Lead is a Key Individual and is responsible for ensuring that the construction project meets compliance with all environmental acts, regulations, procedures, and client requirements. The Environment Lead works with the project personnel to develop, implement, and maintain an environmental management system at project level, including procedures, programs and monitoring the environmental aspects to meet compliance with Project requirements. They will be responsible for all matters related to environmental management and sustainability and shall submit sufficient documentation to Contracting Authority.
What You'll Do Here:- Lead day-to-day implementation, governance, auditing, and reporting of the Environmental Management System (ISO 14001).
- Serve as the project-based Environmental Lead on large, complex infrastructure projects.
- Manage all project environmental matters, including monitoring programs, compliance, and risk management.
- Ensure adherence to contractual, regulatory, and Environmental Reference Document requirements.
- Act as the primary liaison with clients, regulators, and stakeholders on environmental matters.
- Provide leadership and guidance on environmental permits, approvals, and regulatory compliance.
- Oversee environmental aspects of design development, working closely with Technical Services to meet schedule and compliance needs.
- Coordinate and manage environmental subcontractors, audits, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Develop, update, and deliver environmental procedures, training, and reporting (quarterly/annual).
- Lead environmental reviews, mitigation strategies, and authorisation of environmental plans, reports, and submissions on behalf of the Design-Builder.
What You Bring to the Team:- 5+ years in the construction industry, including 5+ years in environmental management at a supervisory/management level.
- Proven experience managing all environmental aspects of transit projects in Ontario.
- Strong knowledge of Ontario TPA Process, Environmental Assessment Act (Ontario), and applicable Provincial and Federal regulations.
- Solid understanding of marine and upland construction, including environmental monitoring and mitigation (in-water works, wildlife, noise, erosion & sediment control, sampling/testing).
- Bachelor's degree in environmental engineering or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated application of ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems.
- Proficient with environmental reporting and management systems.
- Experienced in preparing and submitting environmental permits and authoring EMPs, EPPs, SOPs, procedures, and manuals.
- Strong technical writing, reporting, and documentation skills.
- Effective leader with strong communication, supervision, and conflict-resolution abilities.
- Ability to work independently and within cross-functional teams, manage competing priorities, and adapt to changing project environments.
- Committed to fostering a positive environmental culture with strong problem-solving and interpersonal skills.

Pay Range: $80,000 - $110,000 CAD per year
Individual pay is determined based on several factors, including work location, education, experience, unique skills and job conditions. Other considerations may include certifications, specialized training, and the complexity or scope of the role.
