Qualifications

POSITION OVERVIEW

BDC is the only bank dedicated exclusively to Canadian entrepreneurs. In this role, you will strengthen BDC's understanding of Canada's defence industrial ecosystem by building, managing, and continuously improving defence supply chain intelligence assets. Your work will transform complex data into actionable insights that support sector strategy, business development, client engagement, operational planning, and investment-related decision-making. Your contributions will directly support informed decisions that help Canadian businesses grow.

CHALLENGES TO BE MET

  • Own and continuously enhance BDC's Defence Supply Chain intelligence assets, including: Defence platform databases Defence SME databases
  • Design, develop, and maintain data models, reporting frameworks, semantic models, and Power BI dashboards to support business planning and decision-making.
  • Apply advanced analytics and AI-enabled tools to identify: Industry trends Growth opportunities Supply chain gaps Emerging risks
  • Establish and maintain data governance, data quality, and analytical integrity standards.
  • Integrate external data sources and market intelligence to improve business insights and decision support.
  • Translate business questions into analytical frameworks and recommendations aligned with sector strategy and operational priorities.
  • Analyze defence sector intelligence to assess ecosystem dynamics, emerging technologies, market developments, and supply chain capabilities within Canada's defence industrial base.
  • Develop recurring intelligence products, including: Executive dashboards Scorecards Executive briefings Analytical summaries
  • Collaborate with partners across BDC, including Economic Research, Advisory Services, Risk, and other business functions, to align methodologies and maximize the value of intelligence assets.
  • Advise stakeholders on the effective use of analytical tools and data-driven decision-making.
  • Support the development and monitoring of performance measures, strategic KPIs, and corporate planning activities.
  • Present complex analytical findings to senior leaders through concise, executive-ready materials and presentations.
  • Own and evolve the Defence Supply Chain data and analytics strategy as business and sector needs change.
  • Contribute to an inclusive environment where diverse perspectives strengthen decision-making and business outcomes.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education
  • Bachelor's degree in one of the following fields: Finance Mathematics Economics Business Intelligence Analytics Engineering Related discipline


Experience
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in: Business Intelligence Operational Analysis Advanced Analytics Related analytical fields
  • Experience leading complex analytical and planning initiatives from problem definition through methodology design, validation, and recommendation delivery.
  • Experience developing, reviewing, validating, and challenging: Analytical methodologies Analytical models Forecasts Business analyses
  • Experience preparing and delivering presentations to senior leadership audiences.


Technical skills
  • Advanced proficiency in: Microsoft Excel (including VBA) SQL Microsoft Power BI Microsoft PowerPoint
  • Advanced knowledge of: Data modelling Dashboard development DAX (Data Analysis Expressions) Semantic model design Data quality management Analytical integrity practices
  • Ability to assess the validity of analytical conclusions and convert findings into business recommendations.
  • Strong financial acumen and understanding of business and performance metrics.


Communication and stakeholder management
  • Ability to communicate complex analytical findings clearly and concisely to business audiences.
  • Ability to build effective relationships with stakeholders across multiple functions.
  • Ability to influence decision-making through evidence-based recommendations.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and perform effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Fluency in English and French.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience applying AI-enabled analytical tools to business intelligence and decision support.
  • Experience with defence sector, defence supply chain, industrial ecosystem, or related market intelligence analysis.
  • Experience developing executive-level intelligence products such as scorecards, strategic dashboards, and sector briefings.
  • Experience supporting strategic planning, corporate planning, performance measurement, or KPI development.
