The Metro Technical Operations team is responsible for the design, construction and maintenance of our fiber optic and wireless networks as well as the installation, maintenance, and repair of residential and small business customers on our network.

Role Description

As our Special Projects Manager, you will support deployment, operations, installations, and maintenance of a fiber optic network for residential and business customers throughout Phoenix. You'll have a vital role within the business by adapting to solve critical problems as they arise. Your ability to quickly build internal and external stakeholder trust is essential for success because of your audience (e.g., local city and municipal individuals). Additionally, your ability to craft effective communication, both written and verbally, to help influence and complete complex projects that improve internet access, speed, and service in your community are essential.

In this role, you'll:
  • Support the deployment and operation of GFiber's FTTH build in a metropolitan area. Assist the Head of Metro Technical Operations in leading all Deployment and Operational team members within a metropolitan area.
  • Ensure alignment between various parts of the customer network deployment from design all the way to service delivery. Ensure the best local network is designed, built, and maintained with speed and within business goals.
  • Work with city management to ensure business targets are met. Coordinate with city officials, jurisdictional authorities and utility representatives.
  • Lead and manage the end-to-end Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) network deployment cycle, including Geographic Information Systems (GIS), network planning, engineering design, permitting, and design reviews, across Single-Family (SFU), Multi-Dwelling (MDU), and Single Business Unit (SBU) environments. This includes overseeing proposals, bids, scope definitions, vendor selection, and final approvals.

At a minimum we'd like you to have:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Telecommunications or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 7 years of experience with fiber network deployments, outside and inside plant fiber infrastructure.
  • 7 years of experience with direct team and vendor management.
  • Knowledge of inside and outside plant fiber optic network infrastructure, and engineering design and construction. Knowledge of network drawings, route maps and scopes of work, interpreting fiber test results and auditing projects for compliance with scopes of work.
  • Experience in operational improvement, process/workflow development, and managing complex cross-functional projects.

It's preferred if you have:
  • MBA or Master's degree in Technology.
  • 10 years of relevant industry experience, with hands-on technical leadership and people management experience.
  • Experience developing requests for proposals (RFPs), scheduling projects, cost engineering, budgeting and forecasting costs, reporting project status and costs, procurement and consulting with contractors and vendors.
  • Experience with budgeting, forecasting costs, project reporting, capacity planning, quality assurance, equipment turn-up, testing and acceptance.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is between $153,600 - $169,000 + bonus + cash award + benefits. As pay varies by location, your recruiter will share more about the specific salary range for your targeted location during the hiring process.
