Full Job Description
Application close date:
Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis until the requisition is closed.

Blue Origin is pioneering the future of space-based communications with TeraWave, a revolutionary satellite communications network designed to deliver symmetrical data speeds of up to 6 Tbps anywhere on Earth. This multi-orbit constellation will consist of optically interconnected satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO) and medium Earth orbit (MEO), providing enterprise-grade connectivity for critical operations worldwide.

Special Mentions:

As a Harness Design Engineer III, you will help lead Bundle Interconnect Diagrams (BIDs) and Wire Interconnect Diagrams (WIDs) development for assigned subsystem areas, serve as a technical point of contact for subsystem interface coordination, and mentor junior team members. This is expected to operate with a high degree of autonomy.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Technical Contributions:
  • Independently lead BID/WID development for assigned subsystem areas (e.g., EPS/power distribution, GNC/navigation, and/or payload interfaces)
  • Produce and conduct peer reviews of harness drawings
  • Serve as technical point of contact for assigned subsystem interfaces - coordinate directly with LRU/box owners
  • Lead harness analysis packages (voltage drop, derating, mass estimation) for assigned areas
  • Support the Harness Design Lead in defining harness architecture and design standards
  • Mentor Level I and Level II engineers on harness design best practices and Blue Origin command media

Technical Design & Analysis:
  • Create detailed harness assembly drawings, installation drawings, and connector pin assignment documentation
  • Perform harness analysis including voltage drop calculations, current derating analysis, and mass estimation
  • Conduct 3D harness routing and clearance verification using spacecraft CAD models
  • Define harness segregation requirements for power, signal, and RF interfaces to ensure EMI/EMC compliance
  • Specify connector types, wire gauges, shielding requirements, and termination methods for all harness branches
  • Support harness design reviews and coordinate resolution of design issues with cross-functional teams

Manufacturing & Integration Support:
  • Collaborate with manufacturing engineering to ensure harness designs are optimized for production
  • Support harness fabrication shops during build activities including first article reviews and nonconformance disposition
  • Participate in spacecraft integration and test activities to verify harness installation and functionality
  • Develop harness installation procedures and work instructions for integration teams
  • Support troubleshooting of harness-related issues during spacecraft assembly and test

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical field
  • 7+ years of experience in spacecraft or satellite harness design, cable routing, or electrical integration
  • Extensive experience producing harness assembly drawings, installation drawings, and connector pin assignment documentation
  • Strong experience with BID/WID development and interface coordination across multiple subsystems
  • Proficiency with electrical harness CAD tools (Creo Cabling / Routed Systems, Zuken, Capital Harness, Mentor/Siemens, or equivalent)
  • Solid knowledge of harness fabrication standards
  • Strong understanding of EMI/EMC principles as applied to harness segregation, shielding, and grounding
  • Expert familiarity with connector systems used in space applications (Micro-D, Nano-D, D-sub, circular MIL-DTL-38999, MIL-DTL-83513, etc.)
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, block diagrams, and interface control documents
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical discussions and coordinate with cross-functional teams

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with Creo Cabling / Routed Systems and Windchill PLM for harness configuration management
  • Direct experience designing harnesses for satellite constellations or high-rate spacecraft or automotive production environments
  • Experience mentoring junior harness design engineers
  • Experience with high-voltage (>50V) spacecraft power harness design
  • Experience with harness weight optimization techniques for mass-constrained spacecraft
  • Background in harness-level or system-level signal integrity analysis for high-speed data interfaces (Ethernet, SpaceWire, LVDS)
  • Experience supporting harness fabrication shops - reviewing first articles, dispositioning nonconformances, and developing rework procedures
  • Experience conducting or leading harness design reviews
