About the role

Muon seeks a Software Engineering Director to join our Team. The ideal candidate is passionate about low-latency computer vision pipelines and products.

This position is ideally hybrid at our San Jose, CA office three days per week. However, we will consider exceptional remote candidates as well at approved locations.
Responsibilities
  • Manage an organization of managers, data scientists, and software engineers.
  • Lead the team in delivering an ultra-low latency, high-reliability, massive volume data processing pipeline for data from our FireSat constellation for timely updates to customers around the world.
  • Identify, ensure measurement of, and drive improvement of the right metrics to deliver the performance our customers need from our image processing pipelines.
  • Create long-term technical strategy and roadmaps to drive new capabilities and new products from infrared and visual imagery.
  • Train, teach and model the best principles of software engineering and data science.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively to customers, partner teams and the company as a whole, driving clarity on the team's current and future capabilities.
  • Drive the vision and mission of the team, in harmony with Muon's broader mission and values.
  • Establish operational objectives, policies, procedures and work plans and delegate assignments to the team.
  • Be accountable for the team's successful and predictable delivery against goals and objectives.
Qualifications
  • BS, MS or PhD in Computer Science, Computational Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, Data Science or a related area.
  • 5 years of prior software management experience
  • Experience building and deploying high volume, ultra-low latency data processing pipelines, ideally with computer vision algorithms.
  • Experience with geospatial data engineering principles and tooling.
  • Expert understanding of software engineering processes such as software estimation, DevOps, testing, etc.
  • Excitement about working in a fast-paced, innovation-focused startup environment.
  • Expertise in negotiation and managing technical decision-making.
Nice-to-have Skills
  • Experience writing high-performance data processing in C++ or Python.
  • Expertise with both classical and modern neural-network-based computer vision techniques.
  • Experience delivering imagery products to government organizations.
  • Experience with image processing pipelines from remotely sensed data.
Salary
  • The salary range for this role is $231,000 - $260,000, plus a competitive equity grant and comprehensive benefits package. Final compensation will be determined based on skills, qualifications, experience, and geographic location as assessed during the interview process.
