Summary:

Position:Software Engineer

Department: Engineering

Position Type: Full-Time

Salary: $80,000.00 to $95,000.00

Location: Aurora, Ontario

The Software Engineer will design, develop, and support integrated software solutions for Sinclair's IoT and smart product ecosystem. This role will help build reliable, scalable software that supports critical wireless communication solutions for public safety and private industry customers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Gather requirements around functionality and translate those requirements into elegant functional solutions for Sinclair's IoT ecosystem
  • Architect, design, and develop web-based software solutions to support Sinclair's products and solutions
  • Drive software engineering best practices and follow the software development lifecycle
  • Transform application designs into front-end code with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
  • Work with back-end developers to integrate UI components with APIs and databases
  • Gather and refine specifications and requirements based on technical requirements or UX design
  • Debug errors, troubleshoot issues, and perform routine performance optimizations
  • Conduct technical evaluations for various software platform technologies
  • Work closely with product management to shape and effectively communicate the solution roadmap


  • Document and demonstrate solutions by developing documentation, flowcharts, layouts, diagrams, charts, code comments, and clear code
  • Stay current with emerging technology trends and apply relevant insights to Sinclair's solutions.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • B.Sc. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 3+ years of professional software engineering experience.
  • Strong experience designing and developing modern, responsive, cross-browser-compatible websites using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Sound understanding of HTML5, JavaScript, jQuery, Ajax, and PHP, with experience using cross-platform technologies.
  • Experience integrating web services using SOAP, REST, JSON, and XML.
  • Strong understanding of object-oriented programming, design patterns, technical specifications, and requirements documentation.


Preferred Technical Assets

  • Familiarity with CSS preprocessors such as Sass, Less, or Stylus.
  • Experience with web development for embedded devices.
  • Hands-on experience with browser testing and debugging.
  • Familiarity with configuration management tools such as Git, SVN, or TFS.
  • Familiarity with continuous integration tools such as Maven, Jenkins, and Nexus.
  • Knowledge of agile methodologies, including Scrum.
  • Experience with embedded system development, wireless technologies, or both is an asset.
  • Practical experience with AI coding assistants such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code, model prompting, or agent orchestration is an asset.
