Full Job Description
The Position

Software Engineer

A healthier future. It’s what drives us to innovate. To continuously advance science and ensure everyone has access to the healthcare they need today and for generations to come. Creating a world where we all have more time with the people we love. That’s what makes us Roche.

We are seeking a Software Engineer to contribute to the software development of Roche's proprietary sequencing technology, SBX. In this role, you will work on translating data science concepts into scalable, production-ready software. You will develop and optimize the systems that process DNA sequencing data, working with a team to ensure our base calling and sequencing algorithms are accurate, performant, and deployable.

The Opportunity

You will develop software components for SBX data analysis pipelines. You will help build and maintain systems that process genomic data efficiently, ensuring that our solutions are performant, maintainable, and can scale to handle large datasets.

Core Responsibilities

Software Development & Code Quality

  • Implement software engineering best practices including unit testing, code reviews, and version control. Contribute to the development of modular software libraries for DNA analysis. Assist in implementing and maintaining continuous integration/deployment pipelines.

Algorithm Implementation & Optimization

  • Contribute to performance profiling and optimization of existing codebases (including Python and C++). Work on efficient memory management and I/O handling for genomic datasets.

ML Model Development & Deployment

  • Contribute to model development, versioning, and deployment workflows. Help with containerization tools (Docker/Singularity) for consistent execution environments.

Workflow Engineering

  • Develop and maintain data processing pipelines using tools like Nextflow or Airflow. Write submission scripts and contribute to resource optimization on HPC clusters (SLURM).

Who You Are

You are a Software Engineer with strong programming fundamentals and interest in data-intensive problems. You write clean, maintainable code and care about engineering practices in scientific computing.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Bioinformatics, or related technical field.

  • Strong proficiency in Python (OOP, design patterns) and solid understanding of data structures and algorithmic complexity.

  • Experience with at least one compiled language (C/C++) is desired.

  • Experience developing or deploying machine learning models in production environments.

  • Familiarity with Linux, shell scripting, and containerization basics. Experience working with HPC systems (SLURM) or cloud platforms (AWS/GCP).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with CUDA or GPU-accelerated libraries (CuPy, RAPIDS).
