Job DescriptionAs a Software Engineer II, you'll play a key role in designing, building, and enhancing the applications that power WGU's digital experiences. You'll contribute across the full stack, partnering with engineers, architects, and product teams to deliver scalable, reliable solutions. This is a highly collaborative, hands-on engineering role where approximately 70% of your time will be spent developing new features and capabilities, with the remaining 30% focused on technical debt reduction, operational support, and continuous improvement initiatives.

What You'll Do- Design, develop, test, and maintain full-stack applications using Angular, Java, and Node.js
- Contribute to front-end and back-end development with a balanced 50/50 full-stack focus
- Interpret functional, non-functional, and implied requirements into scalable technical solutions
- Participate in system design discussions and contribute to architectural decisions within your area of ownership
- Build and maintain integrations with databases, third-party systems, and enterprise platforms
- Contribute to troubleshooting efforts, rapidly identifying and resolving system issues to minimize service disruption
- Partner with team members to reduce technical debt, improve system reliability, and support operational excellence
What You'll Bring- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
- 3+ years of experience and a proven track record in developing web-based applications and web services using Java, REST, and other web technologies
- 2+ years of experience with software development using Java (Spring, Apex) and JavaScript technologies including Node.js, React, or Angular
- Experience interfacing with databases and integrating third-party products with existing infrastructure
- Proficiency with Angular, Java, and Node.js
- Experience using GitHub for source control and collaborative development
- Strong understanding of software development fundamentals, including design patterns, testing strategies, SDLC methodologies, debugging, security, and system design
Bonus Points- Experience with Salesforce
- Familiarity with AWS, Kafka, Jira, Confluence, IntelliJ, and/or VS Code
- Experience with Agile/Scrum project development, cloud-native applications, AI tools such as Amazon Kiro, or modernizing legacy systems
Experience in Lieu of EducationEquivalent relevant experience performing the essential functions of this job may substitute for degree requirements. Generally, one year of experience is considered equivalent to one year of education, at the discretion of the hiring manager.
