Job Description

As a Software Engineer II, you'll play a key role in designing, building, and enhancing the applications that power WGU's digital experiences. You'll contribute across the full stack, partnering with engineers, architects, and product teams to deliver scalable, reliable solutions. This is a highly collaborative, hands-on engineering role where approximately 70% of your time will be spent developing new features and capabilities, with the remaining 30% focused on technical debt reduction, operational support, and continuous improvement initiatives.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing engineering organization that is investing heavily in AI-driven innovation. Engineers are encouraged to explore emerging technologies, experiment with new tools, and help shape WGU's FY27 AI strategy focused on improving engineering velocity and developer productivity.

What You'll Do
  • Design, develop, test, and maintain full-stack applications using Angular, Java, and Node.js
  • Contribute to front-end and back-end development with a balanced 50/50 full-stack focus
  • Interpret functional, non-functional, and implied requirements into scalable technical solutions
  • Participate in system design discussions and contribute to architectural decisions within your area of ownership
  • Build and maintain integrations with databases, third-party systems, and enterprise platforms
  • Contribute to troubleshooting efforts, rapidly identifying and resolving system issues to minimize service disruption
  • Partner with team members to reduce technical debt, improve system reliability, and support operational excellence


What You'll Bring

Experience in Lieu of Education

Work Location

This is a full-time, in-office position requiring five days per week in our Salt Lake City, Utah office, designed to foster the collaboration and connection that fuel our best work.

Travel Requirement

This position requires occasional travel of up to 20%, including required attendance at designated company summits (typically one to two per year). Position & Application Details
