POSITION SUMMARY:

Advanced Energy is seeking a Software Engineer to join our Service Engineering organization in Fort Collins, Colorado. The successful candidate will contribute to the development and evolution of software applications used for RF calibration, testing, characterization, and service of Advanced Energy products. The immediate focus of this role is participation in the development of an RF Calibration System application used to automate test workflows, interact with instruments and hardware devices, collect and analyze measurement data, and provide an intuitive operator experience. The application is developed in C#, .NET 8, and WPF using MVVM architecture. Depending on qualifications and experience, this position may be filled at the Software Engineer II or Senior Software Engineer level.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Works as part of a team, balancing time and scope to meet specification and scheduling demands.
• Design, develop, test, and maintain software applications supporting RF calibration, testing, and service activities.
• Develop software solutions that interface with instrumentation, hardware devices, and automated test systems.
• Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to define requirements and implement technical solutions.
• Troubleshoot and resolve software and hardware integration issues.
• Participate in code reviews, testing, documentation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Support both new product development and sustaining engineering efforts for existing products.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required

• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively with cross-functional and geographically distributed teams.

Preferred

• Experience with RF, power electronics, instrumentation, automated test equipment (ATE), calibration systems, or measurement systems.
• Educational background in Electrical Engineering or strong understanding of electrical and electronic systems.
• Experience with Bitbucket, Jira, CI/CD pipelines, and modern software lifecycle management tools.
• Experience modernizing legacy software applications and improving software quality standards.
• Experience developing automated test frameworks and hardware-in-the-loop solutions.
• Knowledge of software quality standards, coding guidelines, and software compliance processes.
• Experience with database technologies and data management solutions.
• Experience with Python for engineering, automation, or test applications.
• Experience with web application or full-stack development using modern frameworks and cloud technologies.
• Familiarity with AI-assisted software development tools and workflows, such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, or similar engineering productivity tools.
• Understanding of responsible AI-assisted development practices, including code review, validation, testing, and governance considerations.
• Experience working in semiconductor, industrial automation, instrumentation, or manufacturing environments.

EXPERIENCE:

• 5+ years of professional software development experience using C# and .NET.
• Experience developing desktop applications using WPF and MVVM architecture.
• Experience developing software that communicates with hardware devices, instruments, sensors, controllers, or embedded systems.
• Experience with one or more communication technologies such as TCP/IP, USB, Serial (RS-232/RS-485), Ethernet, GPIO, CAN, Modbus, SCPI, or similar interfaces.
• Strong object-oriented design and software architecture skills.
• Experience debugging complex interactions between software and physical hardware systems.
• Knowledge of software development best practices including source control, code reviews, automated testing, and continuous integration.
• Experience using Git-based source control systems and modern development workflows.

EDUCATION:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline.

COMPENSATION:

As required by multiple state pay transparency laws, Advanced Energy provides a reasonable range of compensation for each job posting. Actual compensation is influenced by an array of factors including, but not limited to, skill set, level of experience, and specific office location. The range of starting pay for this role is $85,000 to $145,000 per year.
