Northrop Grumman Space Systems—Missile Defense Integration offers an excellent opportunity for a Software Engineer (26-423) to join our team of skilled and diverse professionals. Based in Colorado Springs, CO, this role is essential to supporting the U.S. President, the Secretary of Defense, and combatant commanders at the strategic, regional, and operational levels.

This position does not provide relocation assistance and requires on-site work with no remote options.

Position Overview:

The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program is a key component of the Missile Defense System. It is a vital operational system that enables the U.S. President, the Secretary of Defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels to plan ballistic missile defense operations systematically, collectively monitor the battle, and dynamically control networked sensors and weapon systems to achieve global and regional mission goals. C2BMC supports layered missile defense capabilities that enable an optimized response to threats across all ranges and flight phases. It serves as a force multiplier by networking, integrating, and synchronizing autonomous sensor and weapon systems and operations—both globally and regionally—to improve performance. C2BMC is essential for all ground and flight tests that verify and demonstrate the current and future capabilities of missile defense systems.

Within this mission, the Regional Applications/Planner team develops and maintains software capabilities that enable advanced planning, analysis, and decision support. We are seeking a Software Engineer with strong Java skills and a passion for building highquality, mission-critical software in a collaborative Agile environment.

Essential Functions:

This position is for a Software Engineer supporting the C2BMC program. The selected candidate will be responsible for software development in the Java language for the Regional Applications / Planner team in Colorado Springs, CO. Key responsibilities include:

  • Design, develop, code, maintain, debug, and configure enterprise software applications and products using Java/J2EE (and potentially other object-oriented languages such as C++)

  • Perform analysis and technical support of systems software products, including complex problem resolution, design, development, testing, operational integration, and user support

  • Work from specifications and system engineering artifacts (including Use Cases and SysML diagrams) to develop or modify operating system applications and mission applications

  • Develop software for Unix/Linux environments, applying standard software engineering practices, including coding standards, configuration management, and disciplined build/integration processes

  • Assist with benchmark testing, troubleshooting, performance tuning, and documentation of programs and features

  • Interface with other system support groups and cross-functional teams to resolve problems, establish standards, and improve overall efficiency and reliability of the C2BMC operating environment

  • Contribute to continuous improvement of the software development lifecycle, tools, and processes within the Regional Applications / Planner team

Basic Qualifications:

  • A Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field from an accredited university, along with 2 years of experience; or a Masters degree in a related field with 0 years of relevant work experience; or 6 years of relevant work experience may be considered as an alternative to a degree

  • Applicants must have a current, active in-scope Government-issued Secret security clearance at the time of application, which is required to start

  • This position is for a Software Engineer supporting the C2BMC program, with responsibility for software development in the Java language for the Regional Applications / Planner team in Colorado Springs, CO

  • Knowledge of basic software engineering practices such as coding standards, configuration management, and disciplined development workflows

  • Effective oral and written communication skills, with the ability to work productively in a rapid-paced, team-oriented environment

  • Understanding of software engineering and software development with Java/J2EE experience or alternate object-oriented development experience (additional experience with C++ is also desired)

  • Knowledge and experience developing software for Unix/Linux environments

  • Understanding of standard systems engineering design artifacts such as Use Cases and SysML diagrams

  • Ability to apply sound engineering judgment to implement, integrate, and troubleshoot software components within a larger system

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Agile software development methodologies and practices

  • Experience developing enterprise applications on Linux (Windows development experience also desired)

  • Knowledge of DevSecOps concepts and/or build and release management practices

  • Familiarity with common software development and configuration management tools such as Maven, Git/GitHub, Nexus, and Eclipse (or similar IDEs)

  • Willingness to take on unanticipated tasking, adapt to changing priorities, and support a variety of team needs

Primary Level Salary Range: $83,400.00 - $125,200.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidates experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
