This role is within the EC2 Capacity Optimization organization. We are responsible for writing software that perfects capacity elasticity, delivering the best possible instance lifecycle experience with optimum hardware and software configurations, managing our high growth multi-billion-dollar worldwide fleet hardware for optimal utilization, and expanding the AWS footprint in many new regions every quarter.
This team owns developing services that optimally packs client instances onto servers, tests these configurations and increases the utilization of hardware. The position requires close collaboration with subject matter experts launching enterprise wide EC2 instances, automating solutions that detect and predict capacity utilization, and optimizing capacity availability on behalf of our customers. The individual in this role will be looked upon for technical leadership, which includes working through technical ambiguity on problems that have not been solved elsewhere, providing design and prototyping of technical solutions, hands-on coding and working with other senior engineers and AWS service teams to improve service scalability and performance. You will use statistical and analytic methods to systemize the identification of bottlenecks, root cause issues and orchestrate actions across our capacity management infrastructure for remediation of issues. You will have a major influence coaching others across the organization, collaborating with software development teams, and leading local development for improved operational excellence. You\'ll mentor other engineers, participate in designing new software, perform code reviews, and most importantly, ship code!

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of engineering team management experience
- 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience
- 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
