Full Job Description
Application close date:
Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis until the requisition is closed.

This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a single-configuration, heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle capable of routinely carrying people and payloads to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar, and beyond. Its first stage is fully reusable, and the vehicle was designed from the beginning to be human-capable.

As part of a small, hardworking and accomplished team of specialists, you will be responsible for crafting, developing, validating, and upgrading the simulation infrastructure used to train Blue's launch crews. You will work in a fast-paced and often uncertain environment, providing to innovative solutions, while demonstrating individual leadership, technical competence, and attention to detail. This position includes both simulation software development tasks and hands-on design, development, and test tasks.

Responsibilities:
  • Design, analyze, implement, and revise the software design and programming of mathematical models of New Glenn, orbital launch site, and all associated subsystems using first principles and test data. These models will be used for Launch Operators training and procedure development
  • Develop and implement simulation architectures and models suitable for real-time software-in-the-loop (SIL) and hardware-in-the loop (HIL) testing
  • Develop and maintain model documentation and databooks
  • Document and assist engineers across the company in developing the products required to implement Blue's simulations
  • Support systems analysis and have a cross-functional mindset to support system level architectural decisions
  • Assist in the development of verification and validation procedures to ensure all model products perform as specified to meet system and subsystem requirements
  • Support the development and execution of component-level test programs including integrated on-site testing and post-test analysis to support model verification
  • Support launch crew trainings by preparing and operating the simulator during training sessions

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Educational and work experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in aerospace, computer science, electrical, or mechanical engineering, physics, or related field
  • 7+ years of relevant experience
  • Knowledge of dynamic modeling, including multi-body dynamics, gas dynamics, fluids, thermodynamics
  • Experience with Windows, Linux, Python, real time operating systems, serial communications, IP networking, and embedded systems
  • Strong software and model development skills, particularly in MATLAB/Simulink/Simscape
  • Knowledge of common programming languages such as C/C++, Python
  • Highly organized and capable of planning and working with technical peers across a variety of domains (e.g., guidance, control, aerodynamics, propulsion, mechanical, fluid, electrical, thermal)
  • Hands-on experience with hardware-in-the-loop testing and test development

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in sensor modeling (e.g., pressure, temperature, etc.)
  • Experience with electro-mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical subsystems
  • Experience anchoring/fitting first principles models to test data or high-fidelity external simulations using numerical methods
  • Experience developing and verifying physical models for the purpose of control design, component sizing, and system performance evaluation
  • Ability to continuously manage risk and be comfortable with lean software development techniques
  • Proven system engineering, configuration management skills
  • Familiarity with AI model integration, development, and optimization
