Amazon WorkSpaces has protected and empowered enterprise work for over a decade, and we are now reimagining what a workspace is. We are building Agentic WorkSpaces: a platform where the workspace itself is an active partner in how you work, not just infrastructure that delivers applications. Today more than a million users rely on WorkSpaces daily; tomorrow those workspaces will host AI agents alongside humans, agents that code, troubleshoot, analyze, and act on behalf of their users, governed by the same identity and security policies as the people they serve. We compete with Microsoft, Citrix, and Omnissa, and we intend to leapfrog them by building the workspace that was designed for the agentic era, not retrofitted for it.
Agentic WorkSpaces' Data Plane is the connective tissue that makes this possible: the single entry point through which every WorkSpaces connection flows, and the streaming backbone that delivers the desktop experience once a session begins. We own the end-to-end pre-session journey, authentication across every identity method, session authorization, resource discovery, gateway selection, and cross-region failover, as well as the in-session streaming stack that carries pixels to the user and the pipeline that delivers workspace health and performance metrics back to our customers.
Our vision is for that connection to be seamless and invisible: users and the agents working beside them reach their workspace instantly and securely, sessions stream with high fidelity and low latency, failover is transparent, and the health of every connection is observable through the same AWS tools customers already use, delivered reliably from commercial regions to classified partitions, at a scale where availability and security are non-negotiable.
We are looking for a Software Development Engineer to design, build, and operate the services that authenticate, authorize, connect, and stream WorkSpaces sessions for humans and, increasingly, for the AI agents that work beside them, across every supported identity provider and streaming protocol. You will own end-to-end delivery of features and systems within the Data Plane, from design through deployment and operations, holding a high bar for availability, latency, and security on the services that stand between every customer and their workspace.
You are customer-obsessed, technically deep, and energized by solving hard problems. You think big about what the workspace of the future looks like, a connection fabric that treats humans and agents as first-class principals, streaming that adapts intelligently to network conditions, and brokering that routes and heals itself before users notice a problem, and then you build the systems to get there.
You thrive in ambiguity, make sound trade-off decisions with incomplete information, and hold yourself accountable for results that matter. You want to solve challenging problems in distributed systems, identity, real-time streaming, and network infrastructure at a scale that impacts more than a million users daily.
Key job responsibilities
Design and deliver features and systems within the Data Plane, contributing to the architecture strategy for how the connection and streaming layer evolves to broker and stream sessions for AI agents alongside human users.
Drive the work that unifies and simplifies how sessions are brokered and streamed across protocols, making a consistent, high-fidelity connection experience the default. Partner with compute, identity providers, networking, and gateway teams, earning trust by driving technical discussions that result in impactful architectural decisions.
Design and implement pre-session authentication, authorization, and governance for a world where humans and agents share the same connection path: identity integration across every authentication method, session authorization and access policies that treat agents as first-class principals, and a security posture built in rather than bolted on.
Own the operation of low-latency, high-availability brokering and streaming services that are the single entry point for more than one million WorkSpaces users globally. Ensure your services meet stringent SLAs across multiple production regions, AWS partitions, and streaming protocols, with self-healing routing, transparent cross-region failover, and autonomous issue resolution before customers are impacted.
Drive engineering excellence through instrumentation, automated testing, and pipeline-based deployment, eliminating manual toil and delivering a consistent connection and streaming experience across every protocol. Think big about the agentic era and experiment boldly with AI-powered capabilities such as intelligent gateway selection, self-diagnosing connections, and AI-assisted operational management.
Raise the bar on connection reliability and observability so that authentication, session brokering, high-fidelity streaming, and customer-facing metrics are delivered without imposing an operational tax on the customer or the agent workflows running on the desktop.
