Leidos is hiring a Software/Analytics Engineer to support a Federal Program Office within the Stockpile Sustainment Directorate for the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). The successful candidate will serve as a senior technical contributor responsible for designing, developing, and sustaining advanced analytical software applications that directly support decision‑making, production planning, and strategic analysis across the NNSA. The role provides the technical backbone for mission‑critical tools—including applications such as Enterprise Capacity Analysis (ECA)—and supports long‑term supply‑versus‑demand assessments, scenario evaluations, and enterprise‑wide planning activities.

We are looking for an experienced software engineer with a strong background in Python‑based analytical application development, data engineering, database interaction, and user‑facing analytical interfaces. The successful candidate excels at transforming analytical workflows into maintainable, scalable, and secure production software. They will collaborate extensively with federal and support staff, analysts, and leadership across the Nuclear Security Enterprise (NSE) to define requirements, improve analytical tools, and deliver sustainable software solutions that strengthen enterprise decision support.

The successful candidate will integrate domain‑specific modeling and analytical concepts into robust software systems, enabling analysts and senior leadership to rapidly explore data, compare scenarios, and generate actionable insights. The work directly supports national defense objectives by improving the quality, reliability, and accessibility of enterprise analytical capabilities.

Location: This position will be onsite in Albuquerque, NM (preferred) or Washington, DC.

Roles & Responsibilities include:

  • Designs, develops, and maintains complex, Python‑based analytical applications that support decision‑making, reporting, and long‑term enterprise planning. Leads the development of scalable architecture, modular codebases, and maintainable application components. Implements secure software engineering practices, version control, testing frameworks, and code review processes to ensure high reliability, usability, and long‑term sustainability. Serves as the primary software engineer for enterprise tools such as the Enterprise Capacity Analysis (ECA) application and related analytical platforms.
  • Builds and maintains data ingestion, transformation, validation, and integration pipelines that support analytical applications. Develops and optimizes SQL queries, relational database schemas, and data access patterns to support performance‑critical workloads. Ensures data structures and workflows align with evolving analytical and programmatic requirements across the nuclear security enterprise.
  • Develops user‑facing analytical interfaces, dashboards, visualizations, and interactive tools that help analysts and leadership understand complex datasets, review model outputs, assess scenarios, and generate insights. Designs intuitive interfaces using Python‑based frameworks and visualization libraries to translate analysis into actionable information for decision‑makers. Ensures application usability, accessibility, and responsiveness.
  • Supports program planning, evaluation, and performance tracking by conducting cost, schedule, and risk analyses. Collaborates with various NNSA offices (NA-11, NA-15, NA-18, NA-19) and stakeholders across the nuclear security enterprise to develop standardized analytical workflows and support future analysis needs. For the Federal Program Manager, analyzes, reports on results, and tracks action items on technical projects undertaken by the national security laboratories and nuclear weapon production facilities in nuclear weapon component development.
  • Advises Federal Program Manager in methods for meeting requirements associated with current and future fiscal year planning and assist in developing consistent methods and approaches for use by Federal and contractor budget support staff members.
  • Prepares program cost and budget documentation over several budget fiscal years, including the development of complex spreadsheets, development of program planning and budget briefings, and draft preparation of work authorizations and approved funding program documentation.
  • Provides program management support in the preparation, coordination, evaluation, review and analysis of program execution plans and tracking, monitoring, and reporting of program-specific milestones and updates of annual performance measures.
