Hennepin County's Mental Health Center (MHC) within Human Services Public Health has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Psychiatric Social Worker to provide outpatient clinical assessment and treatment services as a member of the MHC's multidisciplinary treatment team. This position will support clients seeking mental health and substance use services at the MHC, including supporting the Adult & Youth Outpatient Substance Use Program. The Mental Health Center is a state Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) dedicated to offering wide-ranging mental health and substance use disorder care. The MHC's team of support and provider professionals provides comprehensive outpatient mental health services to adults with serious mental illness as well as those with co-occurring substance use disorders. Additionally, the MHC serves children, adolescents, and families, many of whom are involved with other county programs.

Location and hours:
This position is located at the Mental Health Center at 2215 East Lake Street, Minneapolis, MN 55407. Typical work hours will be Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with some evenings required. New Employee Orientation (NEO) for all new benefit-earning employees is in-person in downtown Minneapolis. Details about NEO will be provided upon hire.

In this position, you will:

• Conduct comprehensive biopsychosocial assessments of children, youth, and adults to determine appropriate treatments based on the initial problem, current mental status, and diagnostic impressions.
• Prepare diagnostic assessment reports, including use of self-reporting tools, presenting problems, biopsychosocial history, and psychiatric diagnoses.
• Facilitate the development of a person-/family-centered integrated treatment plan based on identified needs and preferences.
• Provide individual, group, and family therapy using evidence-based interventions to children, youth, adults, and families who may be involved with child protection and/or juvenile justice.
• Document all client and client-related encounters in Epic according to MHC standards.
• Provide/oversee care coordination to enable and support care pathways.
• Participate in multidisciplinary consultation meetings with psychiatrists, APRNs, nurses, psychologists, social workers, and other mental health practitioners and professionals.
• Participate in MHC's quality improvement efforts, including those directed toward anti-racism, equity, and trauma awareness.

Need to have:

• Master's degree or higher in social work or closely related field and two or more years of post-master's degree experience in a psychiatric or mental health setting.
• Qualification as a as defined by the Minnesota Mental Health Act.
• Current licensure as one or more of the following:
  • Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) by the Minnesota Board of Social Work.
  • Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) by the Minnesota Board of Behavioral Health and Therapy.
  • Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) by the Minnesota Board of Marriage and Family Therapy.
  • Licensed Psychologist (LP) by the Minnesota Board of Psychology.

Nice to have:

• Current licensure as an Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC).
• Experience:
  • Providing services in a substance use treatment program.
  • Working with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders.
  • Working with individuals from diverse populations in race, ethnicity, age, gender, identity, ability, and/or sexual orientation.
  • Working in community health or other outpatient settings.
  • Working with Epic, or another similar electronic health records system.
  • Providing therapy and/or crisis services to adults, adolescents, children, and/or their families.
  • Conducting mental health screenings.
  • Handling mental health crises, including diagnosis and treatment of clients in crisis.
• Knowledge of:
  • County and community resources.
  • Cultural differences in beliefs and practices relating to mental health, treatment, family structure, and dynamics.

• Ability to:
  • Function well in unpredictable and challenging situations calling for sensitivity, flexibility, resourcefulness, and independent judgment.
  • Effectively interact with people from diverse backgrounds and/or historically underserved populations.
  • Work well in a group setting.
  • Apply strong therapeutic intervention skills.
