Position Overview

As a Helm Site Safety Supervisor, you will support the Safety Manager and Mechanical Construction Team in implementing and maintaining project safety standards. This is an entry-level field-based role focused on assisting with daily safety operations, documentation, and compliance activities on fast-paced large scale construction projects.

The Specialist will work closely with craft personnel, project management, subcontractors, and client representatives to reinforce company safety expectations and promote a proactive safety culture.

This position may be deployed across one or multiple projects based on organizational requirements and will report to a designated Project Safety Manager or directly to the Corporate Safety Director, as determined by project structure. The ideal candidate understands the dynamic nature of construction operations and is willing to "go where the work is."

This role is currently based on our New Carlisle, Indiana project; however, with limited remaining scope on this site, relocation to another active project may be required as business needs evolve.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in implementing the site-specific safety program under direction of the Safety Manager.
  • Support daily field safety observations and documentation of findings.
  • Help monitor compliance with company, client, and regulatory safety requirements.
  • Assist with Job Hazard Analysis (JHA), Critical Control Cards (CCC), and pre-task planning reviews.
  • Participate in new hire orientations and support site-specific safety onboarding.
  • Help coordinate and track required safety training and certifications.
  • Support documentation management including permits, inspection logs, and safety reports.
  • Participate in incident response and assist with investigations and documentation.
  • Support project start-up meetings and communicate safety expectations to field teams.
  • Monitor housekeeping, PPE compliance, and general site conditions.
  • Assist with maintaining safety boards, signage, and communication materials.
  • Interface professionally with subcontractors and client safety representatives.
  • Provide mentoring support to craft workers under supervision of Safety Leadership.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • 0-3 years of construction, safety, or related field experience preferred.
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification required; certification must have been completed within the past three years, or the candidate must be willing to obtain or update the certification upon hire.
  • Basic knowledge of OSHA construction standards (29 CFR 1926) preferred.
  • Strong interest in construction safety, particularly within mission-critical or mechanical construction environments.
  • Ability to work effectively in fast-paced, high-accountability environments, including both office settings and active construction sites.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and time-management skills, with attention to detail and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Comfortable using tablets, mobile devices, and field technology to support construction and safety activities.
  • Report to work on time and be prepared to perform assigned duties throughout the scheduled workday.
  • Maintain flexibility in work schedules, including varying start and end times and workdays, based on project and business needs.
  • Work extended shifts of 10-12 hours when required by the project or Company.
  • Be available to work some weekends when project schedules, deadlines, or business needs require.
  • Comply with Company work schedules and scheduling procedures.
  • Promptly communicate with the supervisor regarding scheduling conflicts, absences, or circumstances that may affect the ability to report to work as scheduled.
  • Willingness to travel based on project location.
  • Essential Job Requirement: The ability and willingness to work the required schedule, including 10 - 12-hour workdays and occasional weekends, is an essential function of this position. Candidates who are unable or unwilling to meet these scheduling requirements may not be considered for the position.
