What You Will Do

Do you want to make a meaningful impact on U.S. national security? Join our Weapons Research Services Division (WRS-DO), Secure Networks and Assurance (SNA) Group. In this role, you will support the LANL Use Control Site Coordinator (UCSC) by processing and verifying Sigma authorization requests. These materials are highly sensitive and require exceptional protection, making this position critical.

The work environment is fast-paced, dynamic, and requires professionalism, responsiveness, attention to detail, and adaptability to handle requests by email and phone. We are seeking someone who can quickly acclimate and contribute immediately.

In this role, you will operate and support the Sigma System Operations Software. Key responsibilities include processing and granting new and renewing Sigmas (14, 15, & 20) by verifying badges, clearances, need-to-know and conducting specialized background checks. You will review Sigma justifications and will be appointed as a Sigma Verifier with the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA).

You will coordinate with NNSA and Department of Defense (DoD) sites to verify Sigma access for meetings, and process requests for long-term visitors and dual citizens. Proficiency in CPCI and US/UK Module software is required (or competency established within one month). A strong working knowledge of LANL policies and guidance, sound operational security practices, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively are essential. You must maintain professional communication-verbal and written-across LANL and the broader Nuclear Security Enterprise (NSE). You will report to the Sigma Operations Team Lead while also engaging with the Use Control Program Coordinator at NNSA and UCSCs at other NSE sites.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:
Technical Knowledge

• Working knowledge and experience in one or more of the major security areas - information security, physical security, computer security, personnel security, security of classified matter, security assessments, or internal tracking of fraud/waste/abuse.
• Advanced knowledge and experience of Microsoft Office Suite (particularly with Outlook, Excel, and Word.
• Working knowledge and experience with security functions requiring extensive documentation and data management.
• Skill to conceptualize and communicate major elements of security and safeguards to both technical and non-technical personnel.
• Skill in the preparation and presentation of security and safeguards reports.
• Working knowledge of the Laboratory's security and safeguard policies, practices, and procedures.

Customer Service
Ability to develop and nurture effective customer relationships. Demonstrated ability to manage customer interface with program, line management, as well as external interfaces. Exceptional customer service skills and ability to provide clear, concise support and guidance to others.

Organizational Skills
Ability to lead, organize, prioritize, and follow-through to completion on multiple complex tasks, under strict deadlines and changing priorities.

Communication
Ability to communicate program requirements to various stakeholders. Excellent written and verbal communication and listening skills. Ability to maintain operational security in all correspondence, written and verbal. Ability to respond professionally and quickly via phone and email to all inquiries made to the Sigma Office.

Stakeholder Partnership
Ability to partner with customers and solve problems. Skill in working closely with customers and suppliers to define expectations and mutual responsibilities. Ability to work with other sites within the NSE for sigma verifications and other aspects of access authorizations.

Clearance
Ability to obtain a DOE Q Clearance (Usually requires U.S. citizenship).

Education/Experience: Position requires an Associate's Degree and 2 years of experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance, and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
