JOB SUMMARY
The SharePoint Online Administrator will play a critical role in supporting the implementation of a new SharePoint Online-based intranet platform. Working closely with the implementation partner, Microsoft 365 subject matter experts, and key business stakeholders, this individual will develop deep technical and operational expertise in the platform to ensure long-term success. The role will be responsible for preparing the organization to independently administer, govern, support, and enhance the intranet environment following project completion.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Administer, maintain, and support SharePoint Online environments and related Microsoft 365 collaboration platforms.
• Configure and manage SharePoint sites, hub sites, permissions, security groups, content types, metadata, document libraries, search settings, and site provisioning standards.
• Support integrations between SharePoint Online, Microsoft Teams, OneDrive, Microsoft 365 Groups, and other Microsoft 365 services.
• Assist in establishing sustainable administration, governance, and support processes for the intranet platform.
• Collaborate closely with the implementation partner throughout the intranet migration and deployment project.
• Participate in project workshops, design sessions, sprint reviews, and technical discussions to gain comprehensive knowledge of the implemented solution.
• Review architecture, design recommendations, and implementation decisions from an administration, security, governance, and support perspective.
• Serve as the primary internal resource responsible for retaining technical and operational knowledge throughout the implementation lifecycle.
• Participate in knowledge transfer activities and develop expertise in SharePoint administration, intranet architecture, site navigation, search configuration, metadata management, security, permissions, governance, and content management processes.
• Create and maintain operational documentation, administrative standards, runbooks, support procedures, and knowledge repositories.
• Ensure support teams are fully prepared to manage and maintain the platform after implementation.
• Assist in establishing SharePoint Online governance standards and best practices.
• Develop and maintain processes for site ownership, content ownership, site provisioning, information lifecycle management, permission management, and content publishing standards.
• Support compliance with organizational security, records management, and governance requirements.
• Partner with business stakeholders and content owners to support content inventory, migration planning, and readiness activities.
• Promote user adoption initiatives and support organizational change management efforts.
• Provide guidance on SharePoint Online best practices and content management strategies.
• Build and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders responsible for intranet content and platform management.
• Prepare and support the organization's long-term operational support model for the intranet environment.
• Act as the primary escalation point for advanced SharePoint Online administration issues.
• Collaborate with Service Desk, Infrastructure, Security, Corporate Communications, and Digital Experience teams to establish support procedures and service models.
• Identify opportunities for platform optimization, enhancement, and future expansion.
• Assume day-to-day ownership of SharePoint administration and support activities following project completion.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• 3 to 5+ years of experience administering SharePoint Online environments.
• Experience supporting and administering Microsoft 365 collaboration technologies.
• Strong knowledge of SharePoint Online, Microsoft Teams, OneDrive, Microsoft 365 Groups, and Microsoft Entra ID.
• Experience managing SharePoint permissions, governance frameworks, and site administration activities.
• Strong understanding of intranet platforms, content management, and collaboration solutions.
• Proven ability to create operational documentation, administrative procedures, and support processes.
• Experience participating in knowledge transfer initiatives and operational readiness programs.
• Ability to work effectively with both internal stakeholders and external consulting or implementation partners.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Must be located within the United States and authorized to work without sponsorship.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Experience supporting SharePoint Online intranet migrations or digital workplace transformation initiatives.
• Familiarity with SharePoint governance frameworks and information lifecycle management practices.
• Experience supporting user adoption, training, and change management programs.
• Knowledge of records management, compliance, and content publishing standards within Microsoft 365 environments.
• Experience working within highly regulated or enterprise-scale environments.
CERTIFICATIONS
• Microsoft Certified: SharePoint Administrator Associate (preferred).
• Microsoft 365 Certified: Enterprise Administrator Expert (preferred).
• Relevant Microsoft 365, SharePoint Online, or Microsoft Entra ID certifications are highly desirable.
