Must have an active U.S. Department of War (DoW) Secret security clearance with the eligibility to obtain a TS/SCI clearance.This position located in San Diego, CA with hybrid opportunity available.The Senior Advanced Tactical Training Instructor and Systems Operator provides high-end tactical expertise, multi-warfare curriculum modernization, and advanced simulation console operations supporting SAWS and SMWDC. Operating at the direct nexus of fleet tactical doctrine and cutting-edge virtual modeling and simulation, this role delivers classroom instruction, over-the-shoulder mentorship, complex scenario design, and hands-on system operation of Multi-Warfare Planning Training System. The incumbent serves as the master console operator and tactical scenario designer across all Warfare Tactics Instructor (WTI) courses of instruction (IAMD, ASW/SUW, AMW, and Integrated Air Defense Course / IADC). The ideal candidate is a credentialed Warfare Tactics Instructor (WTI) or seasoned Surface Warfare Officer (SWO) with extensive experience in Carrier Strike Group (CSG) planning, synthetic wargaming environments, and Navy training architectures.
In this role, you will:
MWPTS Console & Systems Operation- Tactical Console Operation: Serve as the lead tactical operator for the MWPTS, managing Instructor Workstations, White Cell consoles, and Trainee Pods across multi-baseline Aegis (BL 9.C2, 9.C3, BL 10) and SSDS (BL 12) configurations.
- System Reconfiguration Interface (SRI): Utilize the MWPTS SRI to stage, allocate, and deploy virtualized combat system assignments, Link-16 network parameters, and CEC Cooperative Unit configurations 24 hours in advance of scheduled training evolutions.
- Scenario Generation & Dynamic Control: Manage in-scenario execution via the Scenario Generation and Control Suite (SGCS), dynamically injecting operational conditions, threat kinematics, sea-state/radar ducting variables, and behavior models to challenge advanced watch standers.
- Automated Playback and Debrief: Execute rapid after-action playback and reconstruction (< 15 minutes post-scenario) utilizing the MWPTS Playback & Debrief Suite, evaluating synchronized Ground Truth, Tactical Picture, voice communications, and engagement timelines.
Advanced Tactical Instruction & Mentorship- Curriculum Instruction: Deliver high-velocity tactical lectures and over-the-shoulder mentorship to WTI candidates, Strike Group staff, and shipboard combat teams across all SAWS curricula.
- Tactical Decision Exercises (TDEs): Facilitate tactical decision-making exercises emphasizing high-end Integrated Air and Missile Defense (IAMD), Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD), Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW), and Surface Warfare (SUW).
- Performance Assessment: Assess student and watchstander performance against Navy Mission Essential Task Lists (NMETL), Surface Force Readiness Manual (SFRM) criteria, and published fleet Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures (TTPs).
WTI Curriculum Modernization & Fleet Integration- NAVEDTRA Compliance: Lead the evaluation, modernization, and formal update of curricula for all SMWDC warfare disciplines in compliance with Navy curriculum standards.
- Fleet Exercise Support: Support planning, scenario execution, and debrief analysis for advanced fleet training events, including Surface Warfare Advanced Tactical Training (SWATT), Integrated Air Defense Course (IADC), and Force Air Defense Officer (FADO) courses.
- Doctrine & TTP Evolution: Assist SMWDC N5 (Doctrine) and N7 (Training) directorates by capturing training metrics, identifying tactical doctrine gaps, and contributing to experimental tactics (TACMEMOs / TACNOTEs).
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- An active DoW Secret security clearance with the eligibility for TS/SCI.
- A Bachelor's degree plus 8 years of professional military, government, or defense industry experience in Navy Surface Combat Systems, C5I architectures, and tactical operations.
- A minimum of 5 years aboard Navy cruisers (CG), destroyers (DDG), or amphibious assault ships (LHA/LHD), or within major operational command staffs (CSG, DESRON).
- To be a graduate of a recognized Naval Warfighting Development Center Warfare Tactics Instructor (WTI) course (SMWDC IAMD, ASW/SUW, or AMW strongly preferred).
- To demonstrate operational experience working with synthetic training architectures (e.g., CIAT, BFTT, ACTS, NGS, or JSAF).
- Simulators and Stimulators proficiency: including, but not limited to, NGTS, CCD, NGS, CEPWS, OASIS
- To be able to travel 25%.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced Scenario Generation: Demonstrated experience developing complex, multi-threat tactical training scenarios utilizing combat simulation software suites
- Technical Documentation & Instructional Materials: Proven ability to author high-quality technical documentation, specialized briefing decks, and NAVEDTRA-aligned instructional courseware.
- HMI & Console Acumen: Proven proficiency operating multi-display combat system consoles (AEGIS, SSDS) and tactile Human-Machine Interfaces (HMIs).
- Tactical Data Networks: Deep technical understanding of Link-16 network architecture, Tactical Data Networks, and Cooperative Engagement Capability (CEC) data distribution.
- Communication & Briefing: Exceptional oral communication, debrief facilitation, and classroom presentation skills, with a proven ability to interface with senior officers (O-5/O-6 level).
- Standards Compliance: Familiarity with the Surface Training Advanced Virtual Environment (STAVE) and STAVE Interoperability Standards (SIS).
