Role SummaryThe Service Engineer II, Exteriors plays a crucial role in overseeing all aspects of design for serviceability on current vehicle programs across all platforms. This role requires a high level of independent judgment and cross-functional collaboration to ensure we develop a culture of serviceability within engineering. In this role, you will handle body exterior engineering subsystems as needed and be involved in the engineering design reviews, analyzing, and investigating service impact of incoming change content, driving the appropriate service part strategy.
This role will report to our Manager, Service Engineering- Exteriors and will report in a hybrid capacity to our office in Irvine, CA.
Responsibilities- Oversee all aspects of Interiors change management on current vehicle program
- Track design changes in the early stages of change management and defining the service part strategy across interior and exterior engineering subsystems
- Monitor and triage assigned engineering change requests to assess service impact and determine required actions before a proposed change reaches final review and approval
- Actively participate in engineering design and change review boards to review upcoming changes and identify impact to service parts, tools, and processes
- Track change content requests for current programs and collaborate cross-functionally to develop appropriate service strategy
- Effectively collaborate with Design, Reliability, Service Documentation, Material Engineering and Service parts teams to analyze and manage engineering changes for assigned commodity/programs for impact to service
- Coordinate with service parts planning and sourcing teams to align on inventory strategy and long-term supply planning for impacted service parts
- Investigate and determine interchangeability of new releases with respect to the existing parts
- Lead on-vehicle trials to further define and validate service strategies
- Identify, define, and escalate emerging service concerns through appropriate channels
- Present proposed service strategies at internal review boards and support broader change review discussions as needed
- Maintain visibility of assigned tickets via team dashboards and report status, blockers, and upcoming changes in regular team stand-up meetings
- Support service quality and containment teams to verify repair instructions for field service actions
Qualifications- BS in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Technology or equivalent
- 2+ years of experience in service, aftersales and engineering environment
- Seeking a versatile candidate who can seamlessly handle various engineering subsystems as needed, demonstrating adaptability and an open mindset
- Experience with managing service parts at an automotive OEM preferred
- Knowledge of automotive design and development process and general best practices
- Proficiency in extracting accurate data and adept interpretation for informed decision making
- Experience in Enovia, 3DEXPERIENCE CATIA, JIRA, SAP or equivalent
- Ability to self-direct and adapt quickly to program requirements
- Detail oriented and high-level analytical ability where problems are unusual and complex
- Ability to stand, sit, or walk for 8-10 hours per day
- Required to communicate using phone and/or e-mail
- Ability to view, read, and interpret documents
- Ability to perform all duties in an office environment that may contain ambient noise and temperature fluctuations
Pay DisclosureThe salary range for this role is $85,600 to $107,000 for Irvine, CA based applicants. This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An employee's position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, shift, and organizational needs.
The successful candidate may be eligible for annual performance bonus and equity awards.
