SERE Wing Developer / Coach-Mentor

Location: Fairchild Air Force Base, Washington
Employment Type: Full-Time
Program: 66th Training Squadron (66 TRS) - SERE Specialist Candidate Development
Target Base Salary: $85,000. Cornerstone will consider additional compensation for candidates whose directly relevant SERE, candidate-development, physical-training, and military experience exceed the position requirements.
Clearance: Candidate must successfully complete applicable background and installation-access requirements
Position Summary

The SERE Wing Developer will coach, mentor, and professionally develop SERE Specialist candidates as they prepare for the physical, mental, and professional demands of SERE initial skills training and the SERE career field. The Wing Developer will combine extensive SERE career-field experience with physical-fitness coaching, human-performance education, mental-resiliency development, and structured mentorship to prepare candidates for successful entry into the training pipeline.

The position will support an average daily student load of up to approximately 45 SERE candidates and will require an individual who serves as a credible example of the standards, professionalism, resilience, physical readiness, and leadership expected within the SERE community.

Primary Responsibilities

The SERE Wing Developer will:

  • Coach and mentor SERE Specialist candidates throughout the Pre-Team candidate-development phase.
  • Provide candidates with SERE career-field knowledge, Air Force Specialty Code insight, and realistic expectations regarding SERE training and operational demands.
  • Provide physical-fitness coaching, human-performance instruction, nutrition education, remedial skills development, and mental-resiliency training in accordance with approved Government guides and lesson plans.
  • Establish, monitor, and adjust individual candidate fitness and development goals.
  • Evaluate candidate performance in areas including physical fitness, stress tolerance, teamwork, communication, problem solving, trainability, integrity, and professional development.
  • Administer the Air Force Special Warfare/SERE/EOD Initial Fitness Test (IFT) when requested and assist candidates in developing plans to improve performance.
  • Explain and physically demonstrate proper techniques and all points of performance associated with required IFT exercises and developmental events.
  • Develop strength and conditioning, mentoring, combat-skills, troop-leading, and other developmental lesson plans when requested by the Government.
  • Implement approved lesson plans and training modifications in accordance with Air Force and 66 TRS guidance.
  • Prepare and support Risk Management activities, including DD Form 2977 Deliberate Risk Assessment Worksheets, for developmental physical-training activities.
  • Track candidate development and prepare monthly activity and student-development reports documenting training goals, performance progression or regression, projected development, and IFT results.
  • Maintain appropriate contractor-to-student ratios and comply with applicable safety and emergency-action requirements during physical and field-training events.
  • Safeguard candidate information, Government records, equipment, and facilities in accordance with applicable Privacy Act, records-management, security, and operational-security requirements.
  • Maintain professional and impartial relationships with candidates in accordance with applicable Department of Defense and Air Force policies governing entry-level training.
  • Support training at Fairchild AFB and, when authorized, at surrounding training locations including the Colville National Forest.
  • Perform other SERE candidate-development duties within the scope of the contract and Government-approved training program.

Required Qualifications

The successful candidate must:

  • Be a graduate of the U.S. Air Force SV81A SERE Specialist Training Apprentice Course.
  • Possess six or more years of experience as a former U.S. Air Force SERE Specialist/Instructor.
  • Possess or obtain and maintain American Heart Association or American Red Cross CPR/First Aid certification.
  • Possess or obtain and maintain a valid Lifeguard Certification.
  • Possess an approved Personal Trainer Certification from one of the Government-accepted certification organizations, including ACSM, ACE, NASM, NSCA, or the Cooper Institute.
  • Possess a valid state driver's license.
  • Successfully complete all required background screening and installation-access requirements.
  • Demonstrate strong coaching, mentoring, communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrate the judgment and professionalism necessary to work closely with Air Force personnel and candidates in an initial-skills-training environment.
  • Maintain the physical capability necessary to personally demonstrate required fitness activities and techniques.

Physical Requirements

The SERE Wing Developer must maintain a level of physical readiness consistent with the standards expected of SERE Specialist candidates.

The individual must be capable, within one hour of notification, of completing a 3-mile ruck march on level terrain while carrying a 45-pound rucksack in less than 45 minutes.

The Wing Developer must also maintain the physical ability to demonstrate required IFT exercises and participate in developmental training activities in gym, pool, field, and outdoor environments.

Work Schedule and Environment

The SERE Wing Developer will perform onsite at Fairchild Air Force Base, Washington, for no less than 40 hours per week. Normal operating hours are generally 0700 to 1630, Monday through Friday; however, candidate-development requirements may require work during evenings, weekends, non-duty hours, or at alternate approved training locations.

Training activities may occur in classrooms, fitness facilities, swimming pools, outdoor training areas, and field environments. Approved off-base training may include activities in the Colville National Forest and other Government-approved locations.

Desired Candidate Profile

Cornerstone will place particular value on candidates who bring recent experience mentoring or instructing SERE candidates, familiarity with Fairchild AFB and the 66 TRS training environment, current fitness and professional certifications, and demonstrated success developing personnel for demanding military training programs.

The ideal candidate will combine SERE technical credibility with a coaching and mentorship style that motivates candidates, reinforces professional standards, identifies weaknesses early, and prepares individuals to succeed in one of the Air Force's most demanding career fields.

Compensation: $85,000.00 per year
