Northrop Grumman’s Defense Systems sector is seeking a Mechanical Engineer/ Principal Mechanical Engineer on the Launch Systems Infrastructure team. This position is in our Strategic Deterrent Systems Division to execute the Engineering and Manufacturing Development phase of the Sentinel Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD) program. This position will be located on campus in Roy, UT and may require on-site support at product manufacturing and integration sites. The qualified candidate will work within an Integrated Product Team (IPT) environment, interfacing with IPT leadership, suppliers, customers, and other technical disciplines to engineer design solutions to challenging problems through the development of Product Definition Packages (PDP). This position may be filled at a higher level based on qualifications below.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Create and implement deployable mechanical mechanisms that are verified through test/analysis
- Develop CAD models visualizing various design solutions
- Deliver required PDPs on time to meet program objectives
- Support all phases of the systems lifecycle including design, drawings, fabrication, test, installation, operation and maintenance
- Identify gaps within a design and/or requirements and provide a resolution that is cost effective, innovative, and has minimal impact to others.
- Ensure the developed PDPs meet the design requirements from the various element/configured item specifications.
- Preparation and presentation of reports, briefings, design documents (drawings and specifications) and interface with customers.
Basic Qualifications
This position may be filled at a Mechanical Engineer level or at a Principal Mechanical Engineer level
- Requires a bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university with 2 years of related experience; or a master’s degree with 1 year of related experience (Principal level requires 5 years with a bachelor's; or 3 years with a master's)
- Must be a US Citizen with an active U.S. Government Secret Security Clearance, at time of application, current and within scope, with an investigation date within the last 6 years
- Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) approval within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business needs
- Requires a minimum 2 years of experience with CAD modeling
- Requires experience with design/fabrication techniques for structural details, assemblies, and/or installations
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of GD&T, materials selection, and manufacturing processes
- Proficient written and verbal communication skills when conveying technical content
- ICBM Experience
- Experience in creating a Product Definition Package (PDP) or PDP like products
- Experience with the ASME Y14.X suite of engineering drawing standards
- Ability to work closely with multiple functional organizations (Engineering, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Field Operations, etc.)
- Experience with Siemens NX and Teamcenter CPLM (Common Product Lifecycle Management) tools
- Experience with requirements management and model-based systems engineering (MBSE) principles
- Proficiency in DOORS, CAMEO, Jira and Confluence

This position’s standard work schedule is 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off. This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package.
Primary Level Salary Range: $72,100.00 - $108,100.00
Secondary Level Salary Range: $89,400.00 - $134,200.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
