Full Job Description
We are seeking a Sr. Underwriting Consultant to join our Life Underwriting team in a fully remote capacity. This role is designed for a highly experienced underwriter who can independently evaluate complex, high-face-amount cases while serving as a subject matter expert and mentor to others.

You will play a critical role in balancing risk assessment, customer experience, and distribution relationships, particularly within the independent/BGA marketplace.

Key Responsibilities

  • Underwrite complex individual life insurance cases, including impaired risk, with face amounts typically above $5M and authority up to $10M
  • Analyze medical, financial, and non-medical information to make sound, timely underwriting decisions
  • Provide second signature support and guidance to junior underwriters
  • Partner closely with internal sales and distribution teams to support business objectives
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with independent agents, BGAs, and key distribution partners
  • Manage a high-volume caseload while meeting service and quality standards
  • Communicate underwriting decisions clearly and effectively to internal and external stakeholders
  • Contribute to team development through mentoring, training, and knowledge sharing


Qualifications

Required Experience
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience and a minimum of 10 years of life insurance underwriting experience
  • Proven ability to underwrite large and complex cases, including impaired risks
  • Experience working within the independent agent / brokerage (BGA) distribution channel
  • Demonstrated decision-making authority on higher face amounts and complex risk profiles
Preferred Credentials
  • Industry designations such as FALU, FLMI, CLU, or equivalent coursework
  • Continued professional development aligned with underwriting expertise

$84,000 - $128,000 a year

Protective's targeted salary range for this position is $84,000 to $128,000. Actual salaries may vary depending on factors, including but not limited to, job location, skills, and experience. The range listed is just one component of Protective's total compensation package for employees. This position also offers additional incentive opportunities through an annual incentive based on individual and Company performance.

The internal job title for this role is Sr. UW Generalist.
