WSP is currently initiating a search for a
Senior Technical Manager, Electrical Engineer with a Protective Relaying emphasis for our
Charlotte, NC office. The ability to work remotely from a mutually acceptable location in the United States will be considered (please note in the application questions where you prefer to be located).Be involved in projects with our
Electrical Studies, SCADA, and Protection (ESSP) team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our clients' objectives and solves their challenges.
The successful applicant will have a direct role in the design, engineering, and studies of protection systems for equipment on the bulk power system. This includes the protection of substations, transmission lines, generators, renewables, industrial, and distribution systems.
Your Impact:Candidates for this role will have extensive knowledge, experience, and expertise with many of the items listed below. However, mastery of all these technical areas is not required. A willingness to learn in areas where you do not have experience and to teach others in areas where you do have experience is essential to being successful on our team.
- Protective Relaying: Symmetrical component analysis, protection philosophy development, relay settings, and integration with SCADA systems.
- Protection Analyses: Electrical model development, short circuit, time-current coordination, arc flash, NERC compliance, and event analysis
- Leadership: Lead teams on client projects to meet the scope, schedule, and budget. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.
- Data Acquisition: Support infrequent onsite site visits to collect data and able to discuss project specifics at appropriate technical level for clients.
- Industry Standards: Working knowledge or awareness of applicable industry practices for protection as outlined in IEEE, ANSI, or NERC PRC standards.
- Organized: Flexibility to support a variety of project schedules to meet client needs and able to prioritize responsibilities effectively.
- Applicable software: AcSELerator Quickset, GE Enervista, ASPEN Oneliner, CAPE, SKM-PTW, ETAP, RSCAD
- Applicable hardware: SEL, GE, Siemens, ABB, Beckwith, RTDS
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are:Required Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (ABET accredited).
- 10+ years of relevant post education experience as an electrical engineer executing deliverables for Protective Relaying projects in power generation, transmission, and distribution at a utility, industrial, or commercial scale.
- Professional Engineering (PE) license or ability to obtain one.
- Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
Preferred Qualifications: - Preference will be given to applicants with a proven history of completing similar projects in a consulting environment.
- Preference may be given to engineers with commissioning and testing experience, or strong skills in protecting equipment at high voltages (69kV and higher).
- Preference is also given to applicants with experience mentoring others and a willingness to do so.
