Job Description:Parsons is seeking a
Senior Systems Integration Engineer to help design, modernize, and sustain integrations for a
mission-critical, globally deployed identity and mobility platform. This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who has built and operated complex system-to-system integrations across
Java microservices, event-driven architectures, edge environments, and cloud platforms.
You will work on both
standards-based and
custom integrations spanning external data providers, identity and verification services, biometric and peripheral devices, access-control systems, and country- or customer-specific third-party platforms. The environment ranges from
low-power edge clusters in austere locations to
large, centralized deployments to
cloud-forward AWS architectures.
This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys solving hard interoperability problems, modernizing legacy interfaces, and building resilient integrations that operate reliably under real-world network, performance, and operational constraints.
What you will do- Design, build, and maintain secure, reliable integrations between a distributed platform and third-party systems using REST APIs, asynchronous messaging, secure file/data exchange, and device/peripheral interfaces
- Modernize legacy integrations into Java-based microservices running in a distributed platform architecture
- Build integrations across edge, data center, and AWS cloud deployment models
- Engineer for resilience, observability, auditability, latency, and intermittent/low-bandwidth network conditions
- Integrate with government and commercial systems such as identity and verification services, traveler data platforms, biometric and document-capture peripherals, and access-control and gate systems
- Define interface contracts, schemas, versioning strategies, retry/idempotency behavior, and certification/test approaches
- Troubleshoot issues across application, data, messaging, and network layers
- Partner closely with software, cloud, network, QA, field engineering, analytics/observability, and security teams
Required qualifications- 8+ years of experience in software engineering or systems integration
- Strong hands-on experience building Java-based distributed services
- Proven production experience with API integration and event-driven messaging
- Experience with one or more of the following:
- RabbitMQ, Kafka, JMS, AMQP, or similar messaging platforms
- MongoDB, Elasticsearch/OpenSearch, or comparable data platforms
- AWS deployment and operations in production environments
- Experience designing and supporting integrations in high-availability, mission-critical, or regulated environments
- Strong understanding of integration concerns such as authentication/authorization, certificate-based security, schema evolution, error handling and retries, observability and supportability
- Experience modernizing legacy or monolithic integrations into service-oriented or microservices-based architectures
- Ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative engineering environment with direct ownership of delivery outcomes
Preferred qualifications- Experience with HashiCorp tooling, especially Consul, Nomad, and Vault, or with adjacent platforms whose skills transfer quickly
- Experience with AWS-native services and infrastructure automation
- Familiarity with ELK, Grafana, Kibana, Logstash, or other observability stacks
- Experience integrating biometric devices, document readers, cameras, license plate readers, or other field peripherals
- Experience with degraded, disconnected, or low bandwidth environments
Why join Parsons in this role- Work on technically demanding integration challenges with real operational impact
- Modernize a global platform from legacy interfaces to resilient microservices
- Deliver software, edge systems, cloud, networking, and observability solutions
Join a team where senior engineers have meaningful technical ownership and influence
