Job Description:
Orbital Engineering is seeking a Senior Structural Designer to support industrial client projects in a REMOTE WORK role. Occasional travel to active industrial client sites may be required, including field verification in operating plants, refineries, mills, manufacturing facilities, power facilities, or similar industrial environments. Candidates must be comfortable coordinating around existing equipment, congested layouts, constructability constraints, and plant safety requirements.
Essential Functions
Prepare design drawings to facilitate timely and cost-effective construction of structural systems
Collaborate with civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical engineers and designers throughout the design process
Review structural drawings for errors and omissions
Review project contract documents to ensure quality and accuracy
Attend weekly project meetings to review design and project progress
Lead and support 3D structural design efforts in Advance Steel and/or Revit, including model setup, drawing production workflows, coordination with other disciplines, and development of repeatable standards for industrial structural deliverables.
Review, update, and help enforce CAD, Advance Steel, and Revit standards for industrial structural projects, including modeling practices, drawing templates, checking procedures, and coordination expectations across project teams.
Mentor junior designers, provide first-level oversight of structural deliverables, and help guide project teams through industrial modeling, drawing production, checking, and coordination workflows.

Qualifications:
10+ years of structural design experience in heavy industrial or process-industrial facilities, with strong working knowledge of structural steel, reinforced concrete, equipment supports, pipe supports, platforms, access steel, foundations, and retrofit work in existing facilities.
Experience designing and drafting structural systems in heavy industrial environments such as chemical, petrochemical, metals, manufacturing, power, midstream, mining, or similar process and production facilities.
Knowledge of industry standards
Proficiency with Advance Steel and Revit
Advanced proficiency with Advance Steel and/or Revit, with the ability to set up models, produce structural deliverables, troubleshoot modeling issues, coordinate with other disciplines, and coach other designers toward consistent project execution.
Navisworks experience is a plus
Steel detailing experience is a plus
Excellent teamwork skills
Self-motivated with strong attention to detail
High school diploma or equivalent; Associate degree in design and drafting is a plus

Salary Range:
$55.00 - $65.00 per hour (based on experience, qualifications, and location)
