Job Description:

Field Engineering Sr. Specialist with the primary task of providing project and technical support for the installation, inspection, testing and initial operation of shipboard electronics systems installed on new construction submarines at the Electric Boat shipyard locations in Groton, CT, and Quonset Point, RI. Assist in the installation of land and sea-based electronic systems as needed.

Responsible for projects and processes within the shipyard group, achieving operational targets for electronics systems installation, testing, and support of operational delivery for the Navy customer. Occasionally support operational installation of electronics systems at other Navy installation sites and onboard other US and UK submarines. Responsible for making short-notice independent assessments and decisions for technical areas of responsibility, and during critical and time-sensitive testing.

Assigned tasking requires communication within the Groton, CT group and Integrated Test Solutions, as well as coordination with external supporting contractors and Navy customers. Requires guiding, coaching, and training other employees on areas of responsibility for project execution. Support of electronics systems includes general analysis, problem solving, procedure/process development, and innovation.

Requires near and long-distance travel to provide contracted services on a varying schedule. Requires supporting various tasking at the home location when not on travel, to include shipyard meetings, production status, electronics systems installation, support for visiting installation teams, on-the-job training, mentoring others, filing reports, and other tasking as assigned.

Essential Functions:

  • Travel up to 15% of the time to US and UK locations (WA, CA, GA, FL, UK).
  • Infrequently embark on subsurface vessels.
  • Ability to climb and work on elevated platforms in the shipyard or onboard submarines.
  • Support occasional weekend work.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree and minimum 6 years of prior experience in military electronics systems/Strategic Weapons Systems as well as shipyard operations, or a Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience, or in lieu of a degree, 10 years of other relevant experience.
  • Active U.S. Secret Clearance.
  • 4+ years of experience in a shipyard environment.
  • 10+ years of technical-focused career experience.
  • 4+ years of experience conducting electronic troubleshooting and repair with quality assurance workmanship skills.
  • 4+ years of experience conducting electronic systems installation and testing.
  • Travel up to 15% of the time to US and UK locations (WA, CA, GA, FL, UK).


Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Ability to operate independently with general supervision.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills and the ability to coordinate within the group and with external customers on areas of project responsibility.
  • General analysis, problem solving, and innovation in assigned area of responsibility.
  • Ability to review, follow, and provide recommended improvements to documented procedures.
  • Ability to review, understand, and execute requirements from detailed technical drawings and procedures.
  • Networking skills (Cisco Certification desired).
  • IPC-610/620 and J-STD certifications.

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in Connecticut is Min $88,000.00 - $164,000.00 Max. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
