Job Description

BCS Allegient has a contingent opening for a Senior Technical Writer - Energy / Building Technologies to support an upcoming contract with the Department of Energy.

Salary Range: $115K - $150K depending on experience.

Job Functions:
  • Develop executive-ready technical communications products for a federal emerging building technologies program.
  • Translate complex DOE National Laboratory technical reports, measurement and verification findings, performance evaluations, and building technology data into clear, concise, decision-ready materials.
  • Draft and edit four-page findings documents, executive summaries, one-page infographics, technical summaries, briefing materials, webinar content, website content, newsletters, and stakeholder communications.
  • Review complex technical reports for clarity, consistency, completeness, logic, readability, and alignment with program objectives.
  • Work with subject matter experts, DOE National Laboratory personnel, federal program managers, communications staff, graphic designers, and dashboard/data personnel to develop accurate and accessible technical content.
  • Support development of materials that explain what the technology is, why GSA is interested, how it was evaluated, what was learned, and whether further deployment is recommended.
  • Ensure technical content is appropriate for executive, technical, and non-technical audiences.
  • Support plain-language translation of scientific, engineering, energy, and building technology information.
  • Coordinate technical edits, comment resolution, report status tracking, and content quality reviews.
  • Support Section 508-compliant content development and coordinate with design and accessibility personnel to ensure final products meet federal communication standards.
  • Contribute to webinar scripts, presentation decks, talking points, and outreach materials supporting technology adoption and Pilot-to-Portfolio communications.
  • Maintain consistency across recurring deliverables, templates, report formats, publication materials, and stakeholder-facing communications.


Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in English, communications, journalism, technical writing, engineering, environmental science, energy management, sustainability, public policy, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 8 years of professional technical writing, scientific writing, federal communications, or technical documentation experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience developing technical products for federal agencies, research organizations, engineering programs, energy programs, building technology programs, or science/technology-focused initiatives.
  • Experience translating complex technical, scientific, engineering, energy, or building technology information into clear, executive-ready materials for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience developing or supporting technical reports, executive summaries, findings documents, white papers, briefing materials, infographics, webinars, newsletters, website content, or stakeholder communications.
  • Preferred experience supporting DOE, GSA, DOE National Laboratories, FEMP, federal energy programs, federal facilities, emerging building technologies, measurement and verification, Green Proving Ground, CEBT, or similar programs.
  • Experience with Section 508-compliant content development preferred.
