We are seeking a
Senior Software Engineer to help design, build, and scale high-quality software systems at Tempus. This role is ideal for an experienced engineer who can work across the stack, contribute to architecture and design, improve engineering quality, and collaborate effectively across teams to deliver reliable products and services.
Key Responsibilities- Design, build, and maintain scalable web applications and backend services.
- Plan and deliver new services and features from front end to back end.
- Write clean, efficient, and maintainable code that performs reliably at scale.
- Contribute to and document thoughtful software design and architecture decisions.
- Improve code quality through meaningful code reviews and engineering best practices.
- Debug and resolve issues in existing systems, including problems spanning multiple services.
- Build and maintain automated data flows using pipelines and scripts.
- Write automated unit, integration, and system tests.
- Manually test code thoroughly, including edge cases and failure scenarios.
- Identify and address team-wide engineering challenges to elevate the broader team.
- Partner with cross-functional and adjacent teams to improve products and resolve issues.
Required Qualifications- Professional-level knowledge of application programming languages such as Python, TypeScript, or Java, as well as SQL.
- Professional-level experience in web application development.
- Demonstrated ability to build software that is scalable, maintainable, and high performing.
- Experience contributing to software design, system architecture, and technical documentation.
- Strong debugging and problem-solving skills across distributed or multi-service systems.
- Experience writing automated tests across multiple layers of the application stack.
- Commitment to code quality, testing, and engineering excellence.
Preferred Qualifications- Professional-level knowledge of TypeScript, React, and Node.js.
- Familiarity with AI-enhanced coding tools.
- Experience building and automating data pipelines and scripting workflows.
- Track record of improving team practices and helping other engineers succeed.

CHI: $110,000-$160,000
NYC: $125,000-$175,000
The expected salary range may vary for other locations. Actual salary may vary based on qualifications and experience. Tempus offers a full range of benefits, which may include incentive compensation, restricted stock units, medical and other benefits depending on the position.
