OverviewThe Authentication Infrastructure team builds and operates the foundational infrastructure behind Microsoft's identity platform, delivering the secure, scalable, and highly available systems that power sign-in and access across Microsoft 365, Azure, and Entra. The team focuses on platform reliability, security, and performance at global scale, enabling safe, seamless authentication experiences for billions of users and services.
ResponsibilitiesAI-Native Development Applies AI-assisted development practices across the lifecycle to improve productivity, code quality, and operational safety. Takes ownership of AI-generated artifacts and uses data and engineering metrics to continuously improve development and live-site operations for large-scale authentication systems. Coding Writes and reviews secure, reliable, and performant code that powers critical authentication infrastructure, including token services, session systems, and key management. Emphasizes diagnosability, telemetry, and resiliency to support high-scale, mission-critical services. Uses data, monitoring, and incident learnings to continuously improve system quality and reduce production risk. Design Designs and evolves distributed systems that operate at global scale, ensuring high availability, security, and performance of authentication services. Considers end-to-end system interactions across dependencies, incorporating security, compliance, and resilience into architecture decisions. Drives designs that are testable, observable, and built for safe deployment and rapid recovery. Engineering Excellence Applies strong engineering fundamentals to deliver secure, compliant, and scalable infrastructure. Emphasizes automation, safe deployment practices, and "security by design" to protect sensitive auth flows and data. Partners across teams to ensure systems meet reliability, scalability, and compliance requirements in production environments. Implement Executes projects that deliver secure and reliable infrastructure improvements, using safe deployment practices such as progressive rollout and feature flagging. Plans for scale, failover, and disaster recovery, ensuring systems can operate continuously under high load and failure scenarios. Reliability and Supportability Builds and operates highly reliable systems with deep observability, telemetry, and monitoring. Participates in on-call rotations and drives rapid incident response, root cause analysis, and long-term fixes to improve service health. Continuously invests in automation and tooling to enhance live-site operations and reduce incident impact. Understand User Requirements Collaborates with internal partners to translate platform and customer needs into secure, scalable infrastructure solutions. Balances usability, performance, and security to deliver seamless authentication experiences for global users and services.
