Full Job Description
Location: Cleveland, OH

Cleveland-Cliffs Steel has an immediate opportunity for a Senior Shift Manager Maintenance in the Plant Services & Logistics department at the Cleveland, OH facility. The Senior Shift Manager Maintenance is a front-line supervisory role responsible for leading day-to-day infrastructure and facility maintenance activities to ensure a safe, reliable, and continuously improving operation.

Summary of Responsibilities:
  • Lead and supervise hourly employees, HVAC technicians, Maintenance Technician Mechanical (MTMs), Maintenance Technician Electrical (MTEs), and contractors supporting plant HVAC, utilities, and facility maintenance activities
  • Direct maintenance, inspection, and repair of HVAC systems including industrial heating, ventilation, air handling units, exhaust systems, ductwork, chillers, boilers, cooling towers, and associated controls
  • Ensure HVAC systems support safe operating conditions, environmental compliance, temperature control, ventilation, and air quality standards across production and support areas
  • Supervise maintenance of general plant plumbing systems supporting HVAC and facility operations
  • Develop scopes of work for HVAC and infrastructure projects; support vendor bidding processes and conduct pre-bid walkthroughs as needed
  • Manage maintenance spending by planning work, tracking costs, and submitting purchase requisitions for HVAC equipment, parts, tools, materials, and contracted services
  • Train, coach, and hold employees accountable to company safety, environmental, energy efficiency, and operational standards
  • Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, Purchasing, Environmental, Continuous Improvement, vendors, and peer supervisors
  • Provide supervisory coverage across departments as needed
  • The role operates within a 24/7 manufacturing environment and must respond effectively to changes in operational priorities which may include rotating shifts, weekends, and emergency response coverage
  • Perform other duties as assigned


Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Minimum three (3) years of supervisory or lead experience in HVAC, mechanical maintenance, utilities, or an industrial/manufacturing environment.
  • Working knowledge of industrial or commercial HVAC systems, including heating, ventilation, air handling, exhaust, and cooling equipment.
  • Basic working knowledge of facility infrastructure systems such as buildings, plumbing, and general facilities maintenance.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Ability to work safely in an industrial environment, including outdoors, at heights, and around uneven surfaces.
  • Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, Business Management, or related field.
  • Journeyman-level HVAC experience or formal HVAC technical training.
  • Experience in a steel mill or heavy industrial/manufacturing environment.
  • Experience supervising or working with a unionized workforce.
  • Knowledge of building automation systems (BAS), HVAC controls, or energy management systems.
  • Knowledge of underground infrastructure systems, including storm sewers, excavation, and trenching.

The salary range for this role is $70,000 to $110,000. An employee's pay within the salary range will be based on numerous factors, including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, experience, skills, geographic location, and business or organizational needs.
