Senior Scientist, Oncology Research

Bayer is a biopharmaceutical company committed to applying our scientific leadership in Oncology to transform the lives of patients with cancer. We are growing rapidly with an active research and discovery pipeline. This role will participate in research and drug discovery programs in the oncology pipeline. We are seeking an innovative and agile individual who brings excitement for drug discovery in cancer biology as well as a passion for professional development and peer coaching.

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The primary responsibilities of this role, Senior Scientist, are to:

  • Responsible for independently solving problems to contribute to drug discovery programs in Research /Early Development (RED) Oncology from target identification up through support of early clinical development ;
  • Supporting and driving the initiation of projects and programs to support the Oncology pipeline;
  • Responsible for independently planning and performing experiments, generating and analyzing data, and presenting results and next steps to support the development of drug discovery programs in the Oncology pipeline;
  • Responsible for contributing to the identification of new targets for drug discovery efforts;
  • Collaborates with other scientists in RED ONC and R&D functions and supports cross team and cross site activities to progress drug development programs in Oncology activities;
  • Works across portfolio assets to drive an integrated strategy with indication, MOA, or modality focus;
  • Fosters creativity and motivation between scientists;
  • Ensure that laboratory notebooks are consistently updated, audited, and well maintained;
  • Take initiative in keeping current with field of specialty and contribute to scientific literature;
  • Demonstrates, credibly embodies and roles models VACC leadership being a(n):

WHO YOU ARE

Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science;
  • Proven track record as a laboratory experimentalist with experience working with biological systems (cells/cell lysates/ex vivo tissues etc.) and a desire to continue in a laboratory focused role with a high level of experimental vigor and quality.
  • Familiarity with basic stills related to target validation (e.g. genetic perturbation, chemical perturbation, basic in vitro and in vivo assays)
  • High attention to detail, creativity in problem solving, strong interpersonal skills and proven ability to successfully work independently and as part of teams;
  • Builds strong relationships with peers and cross functionally with partners outside of team to enable higher performance;
  • Recognized scientific innovation and accomplishment evidenced by strong record of publication and conference presentations in cancer biology;
  • Applies our VACC leadership behaviors;
  • Demonstrates high self-awareness as well as system awareness;
  • Pro-actively asks for and gives feedback;

Preferred Qualifications:

  • B.S./M.S. with minimum 6 years industry experience or Ph. D. in Cancer Biology or related field preferably with academic or industry Postdoctoral experience;
  • Impactful research experience demonstrated by high quality publications, patents and/or presentations at national/international conferences


Employees can expect to be paid a salary between $117,339.20 - $176,008.80. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant). Additional benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc.

This salary range is merely an estimate and may vary based on an applicant's location, market data/ranges, an applicant's skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors.
