Position Summary The Natural Gas Scheduler - Texas/Gulf Coast is responsible for the day-to-day nomination, scheduling, and physical flow management of MPC's natural gas volumes across Texas and the Gulf Coast. The position will have responsibility for plant and producer nominations, Permian Basin supply, Waha Hub activity, Texas intrastate and interstate pipelines, storage facilities, and downstream Gulf Coast delivery markets.
The scheduler will coordinate plant receipts, residue gas volumes, transportation capacity, storage activity, purchases, sales, and downstream deliveries to ensure physical flows align with contractual requirements and trader and marketer positions. This includes managing changes in plant production, pipeline constraints, nomination cuts, imbalances, and operational disruptions throughout the gas day.
The scheduler will work closely with natural gas traders, originators, producers, plant personnel, pipelines, marketers, and counterparties, serving as the operational bridge between commercial strategy and physical execution across a growing Texas and Gulf Coast natural gas portfolio.
Primary Objectives
- Nominate, schedule, and manage natural gas receipts and deliveries across plants, gathering systems, pipelines, storage facilities, hubs, and interconnects.
- Coordinate plant nominations and residue gas volumes with producers, plant personnel, pipeline operators, traders, and counterparties.
- Manage physical natural gas movements across Waha, the Permian Basin, Texas intrastate pipelines, and Gulf Coast delivery markets.
- Ensure scheduled volumes align with supply forecasts, contractual obligations, transportation capacity, and commercial positions.
- Monitor and reconcile scheduled and actual flows, pipeline confirmations, cuts, allocations, and imbalances to protect commercial value and minimize financial exposure.
- Provide timely operational intelligence regarding plant performance, pipeline constraints, outages, curtailments, and available transportation capacity.
Key Responsibilities Plant and Supply Nominations
- Manage daily and monthly natural gas nominations associated with processing plants, gathering systems, producer supply, and residue gas deliveries.
- Coordinate with plant personnel, producers, marketers, and pipeline operators to establish expected plant volumes and confirm available residue gas.
- Reconcile nominated, confirmed, allocated, and actual plant volumes and work with the appropriate parties to resolve discrepancies.
- Maintain a clear understanding of plant-specific contracts, meter relationships, delivery points, operational limitations, and nomination requirements.
Pipeline Nomination and Scheduling
- Nominate and schedule natural gas across Texas intrastate and interstate pipelines, storage facilities, hubs, pools, and interconnects using proprietary and third-party scheduling platforms.
- Manage activity across all applicable nomination cycles, including timely, evening, intraday, and final cycles.
- Coordinate receipts and deliveries across the Permian Basin, Waha Hub, Texas Gulf Coast, refinery supply points, storage facilities, and downstream markets.
- Monitor pipeline confirmations, reductions, cuts, capacity constraints, maintenance events, and operational notices, making timely adjustments as required.
- Optimize the use of firm and interruptible transportation capacity in coordination with traders and originators.
Flow, Inventory, and Imbalance Management
- Monitor daily natural gas flows, storage activity, line pack, inventory positions, and imbalances across assigned facilities and pipelines.
- Reconcile scheduled volumes against actual receipts, deliveries, measurements, and commercial positions.
- Identify and resolve discrepancies with plants, producers, pipelines, counterparties, and internal stakeholders.
- Manage pipeline and facility imbalances within contractual and operational tolerances to minimize penalties, cash-outs, and lost commercial value.
- Maintain accurate scheduling records and support month-end volume reconciliation, settlement, and accounting processes.
Stakeholder Coordination and Communication
- Communicate nominations, confirmations, volume changes, and operational issues with traders, originators, plants, producers, pipelines, marketers, and counterparties.
- Coordinate closely with traders to ensure physical flows remain aligned with purchases, sales, transportation positions, storage activity, and commercial strategy.
- Provide timely updates regarding plant performance, supply changes, pipeline restrictions, maintenance, curtailments, and other events affecting physical flows.
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with pipeline representatives, plant operators, producers, counterparties, and internal business partners.
Market and Operational Support
- Monitor pipeline maintenance, capacity constraints, operational flow orders, critical notices, freeze-offs, hurricanes, and other events affecting Texas and Gulf Coast natural gas flows.
- Support contingency planning during plant outages, pipeline disruptions, severe weather, and other operational events.
- Communicate available transportation capacity, changing flow patterns, and operational conditions that may affect Waha, Texas, and Gulf Coast pricing.
- Assist traders and originators in evaluating new supply, transportation, storage, interconnect, and delivery opportunities.
Education and Experience Required Experience:
- Bachelor's degree required or five (5) years of related experience in lieu.
- Four (4) or more years of industry-related experience required.
Preferred Experience:
- Two (2) or more years of natural gas scheduling experience, with direct exposure to Permian Basin / Waha-area markets
- Familiarity with pipeline tariffs, nomination cycles, and gas measurement and allocation practices
- Experience with natural gas scheduling systems
- Ability to Perform Under Time-Sensitive Conditions

Estimated Travel: Up to 10%, primarily for visits to plants, pipeline facilities, counterparties, and occasional industry or team meetings.
This position grade may vary depending on candidate experience. The successful candidate will be placed at a level commensurate with experience and qualifications.
