Full Job Description
As a Senior Sales Engineer, you'll combine your technical aptitude, exceptional communication skills, and creative problem solving to help enterprise merchants design and implement scalable, reliable solutions on the Affirm platform. You'll support pre-sale activities by leading technical discovery, analyzing requirements, and identifying well-architected solutions, while playing a key role in winning deals and driving the business forward. Staff Sales Engineers are part of the Merchant Engineering team and work closely with Affirm's Sales, Engineering, and Product teams. You will work cross-functionally to develop merchant solutions, serve as a trusted technical advisor to customers, identify product enhancements, and help build internal processes that scale. What You'll Do • Technical Expertise: Serve as the subject matter expert on Affirm's integration solutions, demonstrating deep understanding of merchant checkout, customer journeys, and the competitive landscape. Making the most compelling technical case for Affirm to merchants. Consistently demonstrate your technical expertise and knowledge of Affirm's product suite through developing and articulating compelling technical narratives that map Affirm's capabilities to merchant systems, increasing solution scope and long-term platform adoption. • Solution Development: Architect elegant solutions addressing specific customer challenges, including complex integrations and customizations. As necessary, think outside-the-box to design and architect end-to-end solutions that address complex merchant challenges, including advanced integrations and customizations. Evaluate tradeoffs across merchant constraints, platform capabilities, and non-functional requirements, and design tailored solutions aligned with each merchant's business and technical priorities. • Merchant Trust: You will be responsible for building the trust of your technical counterparts, both internally and externally, while also fostering long term relationships with our Enterprise & Key merchants. • Partner Success: Partner with sales and partner engineering teams to drive opportunities for our largest customers, leading solution strategy and laying groundwork for successful implementations. • Product Influence: Act as the "voice of the customer," providing actionable insights to influence product development and feature prioritization to product management at Affirm. • Knowledge Scaling: Create and share best practices, reusable assets, and training materials to enhance go-to-market efficiency. • Sales Support: Provide technical & architectural input into sales planning and forecasting, identify technical risks and constraints early, and collaborate with Sales Operations to design scalable, repeatable technical engagement models. Work with Sales operations to build and refine scalable business processes. • Market Engagement: Develop pre-sales support material and documentation for new products and features. • Demo Development: Build and present custom demos as required. What We Look For • Passion and drive to change consumer checkouts & payments for the better • BA/BS degree in business/technology, or equivalent technical account management experience • 4+ years of experience in 4+ years in Sales Engineering, Solution Architecture, Partner Engineering, Solutions Engineering, technical sales or pre-sales roles, focusing on solution architecture and best practices • 3+ years of current experience in the payments, fintech, or closely related industry • Strong technical acumen in API integrations, SaaS platforms, and enterprise architectures, with particular emphasis on Checkout processes and payment systems • Proven ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously, work independently and drive projects to completion with minimum guidance and high attention to detail • Extensive experience with Ecomm, In-Store, Telesales etc. checkout & payment solutions • Solid understanding of financial infrastructure industry trends and emerging technologies • Keen technical mind comfortable writing scripts in at least one programming language • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences • Executive presence and strong relationship-building skills • Passion for customer success and dedication to championing the customer voice • Experience architecting solutions & technically positioning them with prospects for e-commerce platforms, payment gateways, in-store point of sale systems etc. • Willingness to travel up to 30% of the time Base Pay Grade - J Equity Grade - 5 USA Pacific OTE (CA, WA, NY, NJ, CT): $175,500 - $243,000 USA Sapphire OTE (all other U.S. states): $155,250 - $222,750 Please note that visa sponsorship is not available for this position. #LI-Remote Remote-first with flexibility built in Benefits designed for you Our benefits reflect our commitment to care, transparency, and flexibility.
