Summary

The Office of Information Technology is seeking applicants for their IT Specialist (Senior Red Hat Infrastructure Engineer) position. As a Senior Red Hat Infrastructure Engineer, you will be supporting and engineering on premise and cloud Red Hat infrastructure across the enterprise ensuring secure, reliable, scalable operations. Serving as a technical expert for Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Red Hat virtualization, and OpenShift platforms to sustain and modernize mission critical IT services.

  • Administering and optimizing Red Hat Enterprise Linux environments across on-premise and cloud platforms.
  • Managing Red Hat virtualization platforms to support enterprise workloads.
  • Deploying and maintaining Red Hat OpenShift clusters for containerized applications.
  • Monitoring infrastructure performance and implementing improvements to enhance system reliability.
  • Providing technical expertise and guidance to leadership and engineering teams on infrastructure architecture and modernization.
  • Troubleshooting complex system issues and coordinating resolutions across teams.

Qualifications

Time-in-grade for this announcement is one year at the GS/SK-13 level.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENT: In addition to meeting the basic requirement, applicants must also meet the minimum qualification requirement below.

SK-14: Applicant must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS/SK-13 level:

  1. Administering Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) environments across on-premise and cloud platforms to ensure secure, stable, and scalable enterprise operations;
  2. Managing and optimizing Red Hat virtualization technologies, including Red Hat Virtualization (RHV/RHEL-V) and related hypervisor infrastructure, to support mission-critical applications and enterprise workloads; and
  3. Deploying, configuring, and maintaining Red Hat OpenShift environments to support containerized applications and enterprise modernization initiatives.

  • Infrastructure Design: Uses and implements architecture and topology of software, hardware, and networks, including LANS, WANS, SAN, and telecommunications systems, their components and associated protocols and standards, and how they operate and integrate with one another and with associated controlling software.
  • Requirements Identification and Management: Uses principles and methods to identify, analyze, specify, design, and manage functional requirements through to user acceptance; includes translating functional requirements into technical requirements used for logical design, managing the systems lifecycle, and presenting alternative technologies or approaches.
  • Information System Ownership: Implements and uses methods, tools, and procedures, including the development of information security plans and standards, to facilitate the technical operation of agency systems, prevent information systems vulnerabilities, and provide or restore privacy and security of applications and information systems.
  • Technical Communication: Translates technical information into non-technical terms and accurately convey technical information to end users (e.g., staff, management) and outside parties, including the technical documentation of applications, systems, Standard Operating Procedures, etc.
