Location & ScheduleThe City and County of Denver supports a hybrid workplace model. Employees work where needed, at a job site several days a week and off-site as needed. Employees must work within the state of Colorado on their off-site days.
In this position you can expect to work on site at least 3 days per week at our DEN JAG Building (26100 E. 68th Ave. Suite 240, Aurora, CO 80019) and other project locations on the DEN campus and properties.

Design, Engineering, and Construction (DEC) is the primary Capital Project delivery arm for design and construction projects at DEN. The Infrastructure group and the Facility Projects group within DEC manages over $325 million worth of design and construction projects of the airport's-built environment per year on average, including new and existing roadways, runways, taxiways, utilities, mechanical systems, loading bridges, office remodeling, electrical infrastructure, roofing, and drainage focusing on sustainability, total-cost of ownership, and excellence in design. The DEC team is looking for an interdisciplinary Senior Project Manager who bring a depth and breadth of technical proficiency; critical problem solving, communication and facilitation; financial acumen; stewardship; and an ability to invest in the success of the Airport.
The management work for this position will primarily focus on leading project development, coordination, and planning for all Facility construction projects that are associated with the current and future Airport Capital Improvement Plan as well as other projects that may arise that are not on the capital plan. The manager's roles will require effective coordination, communication, and collaboration with DEN stakeholders, project managers, architects, engineers, and subject matter experts to effectively develop strategies, feasibility, and implementation support for coinciding construction work around the Terminal, Concourses, and outlying building network. This position is essential to ensure continuity in operation, alignment of all project schedules, optimization of systems, and to develop project efficiencies that reduce the overall impact to DEN Customers.
Additionally, the Senior Project Manager will be responsible for delivery of DEN facility projects, which are complex, high in value, and critical to the Airport's success. This includes major rehabilitation and/or new construction building envelop, mechanical, structural, and electrical systems on secure and non-secure areas of the airport. This position will assist with leading and mentoring staff, monitoring and adherence to design and construction standards and processes, championing section and project objectives, and evaluating the effectiveness of program delivery methods and procedures.
Specifically, as the Senior Project Manager, you will:
- Plan, coordinate, and communicate with stakeholders both internal and external to the city, working with intergovernmental organizations, interacting with utility companies, other City agencies, divisions, and departments, and working with consultants and contractors.
- Consult with DEN stakeholders and project sponsors to determine and establish project plans and goals, formulate and define scope of work and objectives, and develop project work plans including time frames, funding limitations, contract costs, risk factors, staffing requirements, and allotment of available resources to various phases of a project.
- Prepare project bid materials with professional consultant teams and cost estimates with DEN Project controls staff, which includes evaluating bid qualifications and proposals, and work with stakeholders on project designs, concepts, and timeframes for project completion.
- Act as a team lead on projects and assignments, coordinate the work for contractors and consultants, assist inspectors with difficult or unusual code compliance issues, keep team members focused on tasks and assignments, and allocate resources effectively.
- Matrix manages and/or coordinate and direct the work of consultants and related personnel who have been assigned responsibility for various projects and/or portions of a project, and define and manage the overall change control processes and quality assurance aspects of the project to ensure success.
- Coordinate project management work on complex projects, which includes monitoring overall construction and design, tracking project schedules, overseeing cost and expenditures, ensuring compliance and conformance to engineering standards within contract specifications, and confer with management on risks, costs, and allocation of resources within the various phases of the project.
- Review and evaluate design drawings, specifications, and project development documents for permits, which includes the review and approval of traffic control plans.
- Review projects to ensures compliance with engineering codes and standards, monitor projects for quality, identify strategies to overcome scope/schedule/budget barriers, ensure materials comply with project specifications, review calculations, and perform field and site inspections.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
What You'll BringWe are looking for candidates that are flexible, adaptable, and excel at building relationships with stakeholders. In addition, our ideal candidate has some or all the following experience, skills, and characteristics:
- 5+ years of progressive experience delivering large-scale facility and infrastructure projects, ideally within architectural, engineering, or construction-management environments.
- Experience managing complex projects in operational environments, such as large commercial airports or continuously operating facilities.
- Strong educational background (Bachelor's in Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, Project Management, or related field); professional licensure or PMP certification is a plus.
- Skilled in managing full project lifecycles, including design and construction contracts, project delivery methods, and stakeholder coordination.
- Proficiency in analyzing, maintaining, and reporting on project schedules, budgets, and performance metrics.
- Ability to proactively identify, prioritize, and mitigate project risks, while driving innovations that improve project and team performance.
- Strong writing and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey technical information and project updates.
Required Minimum Qualifications- Education requirements: Bachelor's Degree in Business, Management, Public Administration, or a related field.
- Experience Requirement: Three (3) years of professional project management experience in the related occupational group including planning, managing, and scheduling projects and preparing and reviewing contract documents.
- Education/Experience Equivalency: One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education. Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.
- License/Certifications: Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application. Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.
Additional InformationFBI Background Check: FBI criminal background check is required for all positions at Denver International Airport (DEN). Employees are also required to report any felony convictions and/or moving violations to maintain this clearance and be eligible for continued employment. By position, a pre-employment physical/drug test may be required.
Snow/Emergency Duties: Denver International Airport is a 24/7/365 team operation. If weather conditions warrant or an emergency crisis occurs, all DEN employees can be required to work extended hours and/or shifts.
