Senior Program Manager | Interim Cryogenic Propulsion Stage

Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Program Manager to join our Space Launch System (SLS) team in Huntsville, AL. NASA's Space Launch System (SLS) is key to returning the United States to the Moon and sending the first astronauts on to Mars.

The SLS Interim Cryogenic Propulsion Stage (ICPS) IPT Lead is an SLS Program position responsible for overall execution of development, qualification, production, and launch activities.  The position reports to the SLS Deputy Program Senior Director. 

Responsibilities include planning and execution of design, development, test, verification, and production integration activities for the Interim Cryogenic Propulsion Stage (ICPS).       

Position Responsibilities:

  • Manages a multi-disciplinary Integrated Product Team (IPT)

  • Develops and maintains program baselines (technical, cost, schedule, requirements, configuration, etc.)

  • Utilizes EVM to manage program performance, review and approve variances, and ensure accurate EAC

  • Characterizes and manages risks, issues, and opportunities with executable and relevant mitigation plans, and accurate financial impacts

  • Establishes IPT organizational structure and operating rhythm to maximize resource utilization and program performance

  • Implements program processes, and seek out process improvements to eliminate waste and drive execution

  • Defines metrics to manage IPT performance, identify program risk, and prioritize resource allocation

  • Reports status to program and executive leadership, both internal and with customer

  • Supports proposal development (tech volume, BOEs, schedule, resources, GR&A), and negotiations

  • Supports major subcontractor component/part development and delivery to support production activities

  • Defines staffing plans; participate in hiring, performance management, and career development

  • Maintains a high performing workforce with a positive culture driven by Boeing values

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher

  • 10+ years’ experience in a leadership role (i.e., manager, project manager, team lead, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Implementation of Program Management Best Practices (PMBP)

  • Project Management Professional (PMP)

  • Earned Value Management System (EVMS)

  • Master’s Degree in Business Administration or Engineering Management

  • Lean+/10X

  • Experience managing direct reports

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

Summary pay range: USD $178,500 - $241,500
