Full Job Description
We are seeking a Senior Product Data Taxonomist to play a critical role in shaping how product data is structured, classified, and scaled across a large global retail ecosystem. This role will be responsible for defining and maintaining product classification hierarchies and attribute frameworks that power digital commerce, search and navigation, analytics, personalization, and enterprise operational systems across merchandising and supply chain.

You will work at the intersection of merchandising, digital experience, data governance, and technology-bringing clarity and consistency to complex product data at global scale.

A day in the life of Senior Product Taxonomist...
  • Taxonomy Design: Own and evolve the Enterprise Product Hierarchy and consumer-facing data that drives navigation structure; Rationalize our current categories into a clean, intuitive tree
  • Attribute Architecture: Define the specific data attributes required for each category (e.g., "Sofas" need 'Seat Depth'; "Vases" do not). Ensure these attributes power on-site filtering and search
  • Search Optimization: Partner with the SEO and Site Search teams to ensure our data structure aligns with how customers actually speak and search (e.g., mapping "couch" to "sofa")
  • Governance: Act as the gatekeeper for new categories and attributes, preventing the "attribute bloat" that degrades system performance and user experience

What you'll bring to the table...
  • Strong understanding of product taxonomy, classification systems, and attribute modeling
  • Hands-on experience working with PIM, MDM, DAM, or commerce platforms
  • Familiarity with data governance principles, metadata management, and data quality practices
  • Understanding of how product data supports search, SEO, navigation, analytics, and personalization
  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to manage complex data structures
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to translate business and customer needs into structured data requirements
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence cross-functional partners
  • Comfortable working in large, matrixed, global organizations and leading change

We'd love to hear from you if you have...
  • 5+ years of experience in taxonomy, data modeling, product data, or information architecture
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Science, Library Science, Data Management, Business, or a related field
  • Experience working with large-scale product assortments in retail, ecommerce, or CPG environments
  • Experience with global or multi-brand retail organizations
  • Familiarity with industry classification standards (e.g., GS1, UNSPSC) and how they integrate with proprietary taxonomies
  • Experience supporting AI/ML, search relevance, or personalization use cases through structured product data
